I actually think the accuracy is one of the knocks against it.

Why would that be a knock? It made the show authentic.

Because authentic real military isn't sexy and doesn't grab the viewer's eye.
The general population misses the absolute brilliance of how/why Mr. Potatohead was portrayed

The show was basically universally acclaimed by audiences and critics so not sure what you are on about.

I know quite a few people that knocked it a bit for being too realistic (boring) and basically just a road trip film.
Of course I agree that those are part of what made it great

Another series that filmed during the pandemic was Under the Banner of Heaven. Andrew Garfield posted lots of good things about Talisman/Repsol/MNP.
They also faced significant challenges filming in Calgary:

Among the locations that were used as filming locations for Under the Banner of Heaven was Inglewood’s Lantern Light Church, which, despite having a big snowfall the day before shooting, served as a stand-in for Miami, Florida.
“We had a couple people going with blow torches and snowblowers trying to get rid of all the snow, we had fake palm trees we put up, we had fake greenery, and we had everyone stay in their houses or go out for the day,” recalled James.
“At the end of the day, we really made it look like it was in Florida—it did not feel like it was Florida, it was minus 23 that day—but we made it work.”

Just watched again to get caught up before Sunday and God damn. All of the praise is warranted. Give Offerman his Emmy now

The episode was well acted and beautifully filmed.
But I find the praise way over the top. Best ever episode of television? C’mon.
For me the series so far is kinda slow. Having never played the game I guess I’m not all that invested.
I would not put TLOU into the same league of shows as Breaking Bad, Saul, Sopranos, GOT, Fauda, Chernobyl etc. Maybe at the end of the season but not after 3 episodes that’s for sure.

I watched it a second time and I think I'll watch it one more time before Sunday. It was so beautiful, especially in a world where the LGBTQ community has become targets due to social media divide.

I was lucky enough to work a fair bit on TLOU sets and with a lot of the crew. I know scouting for season 2 was preemptively done this past fall and it wasn’t in Alberta. Likely a mixture of Vancouver and/or Seattle which seems to align with the feel of the game.

I don't read books so I can never associate with people that have read books prior to watching shows or movies. Seeing I've played through TLOU a few times it kind of takes some of the suspense out of knowing what's going to ultimately happen. I'm still really enjoying the show and liked the change up in the 3rd episode to make it a little more uplifting than the game's portrayal of how Bill and Frank's story which has a pretty grim ending.

Outside the house where the murder was set, it was wintertime and all of the trees had lost their leaves. We watched the crew members adding leafy branches to a tree out front that was in the shot, branch by branch. Manual, time consuming, not so glamorous.
It was pretty funny to drive by afterwards and see that one lone leafy tree, the green jumped out dramatically from the subdued palette of Calgary winter

None of those shows are on any list after 3 episodes either.
It's a long way to go before throwing TLOU on "best show ever lists" but just enjoy the ride and why even think about if it's in some league?
I find watching every HBO show with the lens of "is this the next GOT?" very detracting from the experience.
The episode itself was brilliant and shows the depth in which the show can become more than a straight forward action zombie spectacle.
Getting that sort of emotion & acting from 2 characters who only exist within a single episode, in a show based on a video game is outstanding and why it's getting such praise.

Finally watched the first 3 episodes and the 3rd was the best so far in what has been a very slow and boring show.

Yeah, that jives with what the others were suggesting. Unfortunate, but at least we know it's due to the geography of the game and not their experience. Because based on experience they'd be back in Alberta for every season if the geography lined up, no doubt.
The hope now would be for them to be based out of Vancouver so that at least the show keeps the Canadian film industry thriving.
