I think it’s Calgary too. Vegas just does not make sense with their injured players. I don’t see them including their first round pick with the year they are having. I think Flames can put together the best package if another team does not step up with an A+ prospect.
I’d throw in another first round pick for a team like Arizona to take on 25-35% of his cap too.
I think it happens this week and I think it’s us.

I think it’s just too complicated for Vegas to pull off with their already complex cap situation.
I’m hoping Weekes is on point here. This is exciting! Hopefully Tree pulls it off, but I am (ignoring history) just pleased that it really does seem like we’re one of the final teams standing on a truly franchise impacting acquisition.
…but please, bring this one home Tree. It would be amazing.

I'm still of the opinion that this is a big risk considering Eichel's current situation. There are just so many unknowns at this point. But still, it'll be pretty impressive if Tre actually pulls this deal off.

I was listening to the Hockey PDOcast recently and they made a good point (in my eyes): Calgary needs to increase their risk profile and increase their range of outcomes. They’ve been so conservative for so long, all they get are the same results (as they put it “the definition of average”). They need to introduce risk, so that they begin to see different results rather than just being average.
On that same episode (415), Johnston and Emily Kaplan both confirm Calgary as being in on this.

I just wonder how the team will do with a few current roster players going. Could derail this great start

Could potentially mean why Monahan was on the 4th line… Sutter trying to toy with lines assuming Monahan isn’t here anymore.
I think Eichel could be ready by the end of the Olympic break if this deal actually got done soon.

The only part of a trade I would hate is if Monahans value is considered just a straight cap dump. I think he’s still a valuable asset, who looks to be turning it around.

Pro's
Possible franchise C depending how surgery goes
Still relatively young
4 years left on his deal after this one
Gives the team a different profile around the league and may allow for easier UFA signings down the road
Cons
Obvious the possibility he is never the same player
50/50 he plays this season with so much unknown about rehab time and current lack of games played in the last year
Depleting an already thin prospect base
Losing 1 or more 1st round draft picks
Losing one or more current roster players and upsetting the chemistry and ability of the current team who are rolling early
Losing one of Gaudreau or Tkachuk and another current roster player to fit him in
Committing 40+ Million in cap space over the next 4+ years on unknown return
There is a lot to consider in this whole ####show.
I still think the risk far outweighs the possible benefits that will not be realized for at least a year and a half.

Adding to that cons list.....isn't he supposed to be locker room cancer? Our locker room hasn't been this positive in a long long time. Maybe adding a hardcore right wing trumper isn't the best move right now?

Never heard that anywhere. Just seemed like a guy who was sick of Buffalos awful management and losing.

Depends on what players… Buffalo from all reports does not want a bunch of salary back. If you move Monahan, Valimaki and 2 1sts (1 conditional) is it impacting the overall team much?

i have bad news about a majority white sport from upper middle class backgrounds with most having high school educations. You might have to accept that your team is likely heavily republican and several of your favourites are Trump guys

They said they wouldn't be retaining any salary on Eichel but would be willing to take contracts on to make the cap work. They have to anyway, in order to reach the cap floor.

I feel like this is a narrative created by Oilers fans. My brother in law has told me that both ROR and Eichel are locker room cancers while Flames were on the precipice of trading for them.
Yet, he argued vehemently that Neal was not, in fact, a locker room cancer. That did not age well..
I feel that if you're stuck in Buffalo you're going to have a bad time, and a player's attitude may reflect that.
