I know it's unlikely, but it would be amazing if the Flames could land Gauthier with the 35 pick. We are definitely out of his range with the 6oa. That said, his physique and shoot first mentality could be useful moving forward.

I've been hoping they find a way to land him with their second pick as well should they remain at 6 and not trade their 2nd for a goalie. He's kind of all over the map for where he slots in although the majority of final rankings do have as a mid/higher first. Seems like he's slightly out of reach with where are now at 2, but perhaps if he slips a bit and gets close the Flames can trade down a few places for him.

Kylington dropping down to our seconds last year is what gives me hope. There seems to be a similar level of anxiety around Gauthier.

He is also a huge bodybuilder tossing immature kids around, like Kramer dominating the dojo. I am very leery of this guy. I guess if he falls far enough, worth a shot...

Does anyone know when the second round starts? Is it directly after the first round on Friday night or are rounds two - seven the next day? Also will it be on tv?

Thanks much- sorry having trouble finding info on.

Round 2 starts on Saturday morning at 8. Sportsnet has it televised.

he's got the build to toss NHLers around too. big kid. I'm kind of sad he had such a poor season. He was my preseason Flames first round pick.

OK. I know I'm offering no real new information or opinion here, but I just want to get it off my chest.

What we know: The Flames "Big 3" D-Men are under contract for minimum 4 more years. Assuming Gio keeps his level of play up for four more years we're all going to be very very happy with this group.

Corollary: In the short and medium term we have only these spots to fill on our back-end: one 3-4 pairing D-Man, two 5-6 pairing D-Men

(For argument's sake I'm going to say you can always get a Diaz / Schlemko for under $1M for the #7 spot, so really we need 3 D-men over the next four years.)

Here's our list of prospects in a very loose tiered ranking:
Ready (or almost ready) Now:
Nakladal - 28 yrs old
Jokipakka - 24 yrs old
Wotherspoon - 23 yrs old
Culkin - 22 yrs
Kulak - 22 yrs

Huge medium-term upside:
Andersson - 19 yrs
Kylington - 19 yrs
Hickey - 20 yrs

Others I can't place:
Sieloff - 22 yrs
Morrison - 24 yrs
Kanzig - 21 yrs

Conclusion: When I look above, I see multiple options for our #4 D-Man and multiple (cheap) options for our 5-6 pairing. ** I do not want to invest our first round pick in a defenseman! **

Please pick a forward Flames. I love the depth we've already built a "D" and have no problems adding two more during this draft, just not at #6 (or higher or lower)

I tend to agree with this...I don't want to see a D drafted with our #1 either.

Jason Botchford ‏@botchford
In the Canucks "six" — the players they would take at 5 — one is D (long thought to be juolevi) and 4, 5 and 6 are pretty close

Screw that, I would rather Vancouver takes Brown. I don't want us having to face Juolevi for years to come if it can be helped.

I'm still holding out hope that PLD drops to us. I think Tkachuk goes before him and all we need are the Oilers or Canucks to take a defenseman. Both need help on the back end.

Fingers crossed.

Just listened to Tod Button's interview with Steinberg

Tkachuk - real skilled, plays in hard areas. "part of one of the best lines". Power game.

Dubois accountable, coachable, responsible. Projects as a winger.

Nylander a top 5 skill guy in the draft. Very cerebral.

Brown doesn't use shot enough - Alex Tanguay type. High Ceiling. Trained better, used video in second half to see what he needed to better on consistent basis. Already had the ability. Arguably as good as "anybody in this draft" in the second half.

Chychrun solid, great leadership, good puck mover, physical, good one-on-one. "A Captain". A person as good as anybody in the draft.

Juolevi - very intelligent and very skilled

Sergachyev - Best combo of Offense and Defense. Eager to learn, coachable, great shooter.

Not sure how well the Flames pick will be received here, but here's a look at our 2016 Staff Mock Draft:

Picks 1-10 ~ http://futureconsiderations.ca/fcs-s...ft-picks-1-10/
Picks 11-20 ~ http://futureconsiderations.ca/fcs-s...t-picks-11-20/
Picks 21-30 ~ http://futureconsiderations.ca/fcs-s...t-picks-21-30/

Enjoy.

Reading between the lines, going by Button's tone and the way he talked about the picks, my guess is the Flames have Brown ranked higher than Nylander and Sergachev higher than Juolevi. I also wonder if maybe Dubois will drop, given the fact he isn't really comfortable playing centre.
