Appears to be lots of regular folks there. Henderson from Detroit, Sather from NYR, etc. Normal scouts doing their jobs. When you see more than one scout there the antenna goes up but most of them are probably pro scouts pro scouting, nothing more than that.

they could be scouting for future games or are looking at someone with term left on their deal (or team controlled years left).

I know its Eklund fluff and I dont think Ive seen it posted here but he gave BS3 (E3) rating that before the suspension the Flames were lining up a trade package that included Wideman for one of Malcom Subban or Loui Eriksson.
What do you guys think a trade with beantown would look like for one or both of these guys??
Eriksson scares me a bit because his stats have exploded in a contract year AND he's 30, will be 31 or close to it by the time he signs his newest contract.
Wideman
Poirier
Macdonald
2nd
For
Eriksson
Subban
???
Ive never been good at the armchair gming thing lol

I wouldn't give up anything for Eriksson as he's only a rental and we don't need rentals. Maybe sign him when he's a UFA come July but otherwise he has no value for us.
I'd be happy to get Subban for Wideman. He could compete for our backup job next season and he also has a year left of not needing to go through waivers.

It's not that bad.
Eriksson = Poirier+McDonald
Subban = Wideman+2nd
Pretty fair for both sides. I'd do it if we could re-sign Loui, that would be key obviously. The Flames might have to retain on Wideman though.
Your post didn't indicate who you thought the trade was bad for, just that it was bad. If anything, Calgary is overpaying IMO.

Wideman probably has negative trade value.

is Malcolm Subban really worth a lot? I mean I wouldn't trade him for Wideman and a 2nd. But what would his value be?

I doubt he's worth a 1st, but he's probably worth more than a 2nd. I don't think Wideman has as little value as some are suggesting though. Apparently it's an insane notion that someone might want to trade for a top 4 D who is a veteran of over 800 games. The biggest obstacle would be his NMC but players waive those all the time, even if some here would suggest that it's an insurmountable obstacle.

The only reason it would make sense for the Flames to get Eriksson is to flip him at the deadline. I don't think he's the kind of player that the Flames need moving forward and he's going to be asking for more than he's worth for his next contract. Suban would be a decent pick up and if the B's actually have interest in Wideman I'd take....well just about anything they'd give up for him.
I do still think that if the Flames keep Wideman, he'll be a big trade chip at next years deadline.

Jim Benning on tsn1040 this am says he's waiting for one team to get back to him on Prust. If he is assigned this am, then We know the deal fell through.

haha, what happened is it's early, and I thought that Subban was referring to PK.
Carry on, I'm going to go get a coffee.

I'm sure the Bruins would love to trade PK Subban for Wideman. The Habs might have a problem with it though.

Eriksson would be a great add to the team this year but not long term. Subban would be a nice option as a backup next year so if we could do Wideman for him that would be a huge win for Calgary answering one of the 2 goalies needed for next year and dumping the huge Wideman cap hit to free up money to chase a top 6 forward this summer

Probably scouting for free agency, not the trade deadline

The thing about Wideman is that he isn't that valuable to us anymore as Hamilton and Brodie can fill his spot as an offensive specialist. Other teams may need just the skills he has though so to say he has negative value is shortsighted.
