Its two for one day, with Nick Sorensen also profiled. A RW from the Quebec Remparts.

Both for different reasons. Tavares as a comparable prospect, and Sven because Fire said MacK is going to outproduce him.

Sven found his game post trade deadline. I'm being optimistic and saying Sven is going to be that player we saw after the trades.

I have not been this nervous about a NHL draft then this one. I am so fearful that the Flames are going to make a mess of the first round some how they will make bone head decisions. Which pretty much sums what my confidence level is at as a fan with Feaster, Button and Weisbrod.
Just don't try to outsmart the room and just take the players in the 1st round that are ranked to be at or around that pick.
I want this draft to be here already.

I agree with you. Sven really didn't get a crack until Iginla was moved and the flames were looking to give their youngs guys a real crack. I wouldn't be shocked if Sven got close to 60 points next year

I still think that if the Flames #1 choice on their board is gone before the 6th pick they will deal with Buffalo. Rumor is Buffalo wants to move up but i don't think any of the top 5 would be willing to drop to 8th.

Flames 6th to Sabres

Flames receive the 8th and 16th.

Flames 1 round picks 8th, 16th, 22nd, 28th.

I would agree with this as well, but it does presume that we aren't interested in Lindholm. I would have thought that he should be taken at 6 by the Flames, if he is the last C standing.
Passing on Lindholm in order to pick up Shinkaruk/Horvat/Domi would be highly questionable in my mind.

^ I would add, that for that transaction to make any sense, we would really need Buf to overpay. Perhaps add a second (#52) to the mix. Can't see it happening.

Sven never really found his game. The Flames were trying to tank which opened the door for their young players to get a lot more ice time than they normally would and pretty well all his points were assists and he wasn't that noticeable most games. I'm not trying to rain on the parade of Sven Baertschi but he wasn't really very good. I expect him to be better in the coming season but I don't think he's going to be amongst the rookie scoring leaders as he's going to take a couple of years before he breaks through.

If he wasn't very good during that point streak imagine how many points he'll be getting if he plays to potential!

I think the cost of 1st or 2nd is probably the 6th + Brodie/Baertschi + 28th pick. That would be a hard decision and really depends on MacKinnon's potential. Elite Center's are one of the hardest, if not the hardest, player's to obtain. I think the Flames would have to think long and hard on whether MacKinnon is worth that price.

I agree that elite centers are tough to find but with the way this team is projecting for next year would it not make more sense to wait till next year as you would be able to retain those assets. I don't know enough about Sam Reinhart, but if he is a comparable talent then IMO the best option is to wait.

I’m concerned the draft rolls out with Monahan going to Carolina, leaving Lindholm ripe for the picking, but Calgary has Lindholm rated in the neighbourhood of Horvat, and they actually trade down. For example, swap with Dallas, and end up with Horvat and another late first (+ a second or a third?).

8th + 16th for the #6 is overpaying IMO. Not sure we could turn that down.

It depends on whether the Flames see a major drop off after 5, such that they would be willing to pass on Lindholm and take on a Horvat/Shinkaruk/Domi at 8 and perhaps a Wennberg at 16. Should that be considered Quantity over Quality? I am honestly not sure, as I was more than happy to keep the 3 first rounders.

You're making an assumption that we have a lottery pick locked up for next year which could very well backfire

This kinda reminds me of when Lindros was drafted. The flyers got the franchise guy, but it cost them, and the nordiques/avs went on the win a couple of cups.

I would be fine with that. I am not sold Lindholm is all that better than Horvat, if at all. Then again, I have watched him a lot here in London. I think Horvat will be a solid 2nd line C, the same as Lindholm. We need to get as many prospects going as we can.

If Monahan is gone and Lindholm isn't in the Flames plans (or they think he can drop), you take this deal. I know we need a 1st line center, but adding the 16th in this draft could be very good for the future of the Flames.
