Like clockwork, and they don't have to even win the Cup. Up 2 games and here's a post from r/EdmontonOilers. I'm not sure if we can link reddit threads on here.
"Is anybody else getting optimistic about how Vegas are blowing out the Panthers?"

They had a much harder time against us. I would say they had a harder time against us than against the Stars as well. We may not have made it to the WCF this year but if we lose to the eventual SC winners it will be two consecutive years where the only team to beat us in post-season were the eventual champs...I dunno if you guys follow my reasoning, but it gives me hope. We're close.

Those whispers of the Kings going hard after Draisaitl not going away. Kypreos on 960 this morning discussed the timing of Kopitar's deal coming off the books the same time Draisaitl hits free agency and says Kopita will either come back on a one year team friendly deal or go back to Europe.

I've already seen tweets by their fans crowing about how they've now lost to the eventual Cup champs twice in a row (assuming Vegas wins). Which means... something, I guess.

Spend your winters in Edmonton, or spend your winters in LA? Hmm that's a tough one.

"It's going to happen sooner than we think"
McDavid has been an Oiler for 2 years longer than Vegas has been in the league.

I mean, using their logic, we were one point better than the Panthers. So we were on the cusp of making the finals.

So if Florida wins, we win the cup? Or is that just sweatpant physics?

the oilers beat the panthers both times they played them this past season, so that obviously means the oilers would have swept them

Truth be told, I think the Oilers would have a good chance to beat the Panthers in a series if Bobrovsky was anything but amazing. You just know the refs would be giving them McPowerplays like crazy as soon as guys like Bennett, Gudas, Lomberg, and Tkachuk started harassing the golden boys.
They didn't have the ability to get through the West, so it's a moot point. I think it was a huge missed opportunity for them though and I hope they feel that burn.

Chris, I don't believe it is true until I hear it from your son. Your son has the smartest hockey mind I know.

The big teams really laid down this year, so yeah this might've been their chance to flop to the top.

Thank goodness the Knights beat the Oilers. There was definitely a clearer path to a Cup victory for the Western conference teams with the Bruins' early exit. The next 2 seasons are going to be key as Draisaitl's sweetheart contract will be over. Don't know how many extra millions they'll need to add to keep him, but I suspect the looming deal may hamper Holland's ability to make the team better as their cap situation will be tight. Looks like they'll have to drop a couple larger cap hits just so they're not dressing half a team of league minimums.

I think they just missed their best chance. They need to sign a bunch of players and they can’t afford them. And I don’t see Skinner winning near as many for them.

They’re going to buy out Yamamoto.
If they do they only count $433,334 against the cap this year & $533,334 next.
So cap savings of $2,666,666 this year which still only gives them $8,636,666 to sign 8 players (including Bouchard) if Yamamoto is gone.
