Watched an incredible movie called "A Hero" on Amazon Prime. The film really draws on some interesting themes about the fuzziness of "the truth", especially in Iranian culture, how messy it can be, and whose version of the truth we are meant to believe, and of course all the lives caught within these stories.
I must also add a disclaimer to this recommendation: The director Asghar Farhadi, one of Iran's most, if not the most, successful filmmakers, essentially stole the idea for this movie from one of his film students. Even the story of Farhadi himself is one of half truths, and the various lives caught within his messy "truth".

Quite the read if you have some time.

Sometimes he picks things that work out well. He was quite good in Greenland, probably one of the most underrated disaster movies out there. And he was fantastic in Law Abiding Citizen, that's probably the best movie he's done aside from 300 IMO

I was able to finally watch Back to the Future and cross it off my list of shame of movies I've never seen.......it was as close to a perfect movie as you can make. Much like Casablanca, this movie is so engrained in our pop culture milieu that I knew alot of scenes and plot points going in, but it didn't ruin my enjoyment of it. Amazing cast, strong script and perfect pacing of the movie 5/5.

Yeah even people I've talked to who didn't seem to get it had to admit to laughing during a .

Something I love about Back to the Future is the making of a classic sci-fi with really very little special effects. It didn't need to break barriers with any of that stuff. It's just, as you said, a great movie with a great script.

I didn't love "The Whale", it was very good but 20 mins in I noticed the dialogue was a bit too dramatic, then I realized it was all going to take place in his apartment. Yeah, this was based on a play. Bit tough to watch Fraser's fat scenes at times but I guess that's the reality. The daughter was a bit overboard, I think I saw that mentioned here already, have to agree.

I think part of the hype over the movie is simply because of Brendan Fraser.
He's getting a huge push from the love people have for him.

What is with the love for Brendan Fraser anyway? Like I have nothing against him, but I feel like it was 'The Mummy' and then I didn't hear his name again for 20 years.

Comeback story; was black-balled in Hollywood after coming out about being sexually assaulted by the HFPA president.

Highly recommend you watch the original Swedish movie of this story, A Man Called Ove. An excellent movie. I admit to not having seen this Tom Hanks version but I find often the North American remakes of stories like this are a bit disappointing.

Really? I had no idea. I just thought he wasn't considered a bankable actor anymore.
Do you have a link to a story?

tons and tons of stories. here's one from Variety.
https://variety.com/2018/film/news/b...im-1202707850/
The actor said that the incident made him reclusive and he retreated from public life. He questioned if the HFPA blacklisted him as a result, since he was rarely invited back to the Golden Globes, which the HFPA runs, after 2003. He believes it’s partly why his career derailed, and said “The phone does stop ringing in your career, and you start asking yourself why. There’s many reasons, but was this one of them? I think it was.”

The Madoff series on Netflix was good. Also scary. Basically the entire global economy is built on the same Ponzi scheme he was running.
