Hmm well I guess that wish is out the window.

Real problems: Goalie, #4 D. I hope we dont add a forward this offseason.

You mean how to build an average team...
Pens were in "cap hell" like the Kings and Hawks
I already said goalie (running out of options) and #4 D are top two priorities but to be a cup contender all three things need to be addressed.
Bringing back the same team is going to yield the same result...it boggles the mind some don't see that

The answer was; pretty easily. I would have given up Lazar, Kulak and Kylington+. Probably quality vs quality and therefore not of interest to TBL but seems pretty equal to me.

Lavoie says he has heard of at least 5 trades have been agreed to with Las Vegas but can't be announced right now. He expects 5-10 trades to be announced with Vegas when done.

Not just on a quantity end, but that wouldn't have worked due to the expansion draft. Both Lazar and Kulak need protecting, opening up the chance to lose them for nothing.
This trade worked because they're able to protect another forward and don't have to protect the quality D they got back.

Team to watch now is MIN. Lots of Jonas Brodin trade talk coming out of Twin Cities. I don't doubt Brodin would type of D MTL is targeting.

Yeah, good point - I can see a lot of reasons why this would have been problematic for the Flames.
Boy, I know he is not perfect but Stevie Y is becoming a GM of the same calibre he was as a player. He's a very smart exec.

In terms of equivalent value where TB wouldn't have to protect a player, I imagine we would have been looking at something along the lines of Andersson plus our 1st, without the condition on the draft pick.

why are you worried? Expansion is a severely underrated top pairing Dman.
Forget Gio, Oilers have like 5 Expansions in their system

That's an easy decision for the Flames, no?
I'd even throw in a Lazar or two.

If it's that easy, probably means I'm off on the value.

There is a really strong sense this Ranger-Flames trade is going down tonight. We will find out soon enough, I suppose.
