this is how I feel too...IF he is in that role fans also need to stop giving him a pass. I have heard multiple people say he did well in the playoffs even though he had ZERO points. Almost scoring isn't good enough if this is gonna be a top six winger.

Almost every team has a player like Shinkaruk that the fans worry will get claimed off waivers in October, and they almost never get claimed.
The thing to always remember with waiver claims is that a player who is claimed off waivers must be kept in the NHL or put back on waivers (where he can be reclaimed by his original team) before being sent to the AHL.
If Shinkaruk doesn't show enough in the preseason to warrant making the Flames, it will likely mean that he didn't show enough for another team to make a claim on him.
I'd be more concerned about Kulak and/or Wotherspoon (if they're both still with the Flames) getting claimed off waivers than Shinkaruk.

What was his pro rated production while on the top line? I think he was terrific on that line/ No free passes are being given. Johnny and Monahan played there best hockey both of the last two seasons when he was on that line.

7g / 3a / 10p in 21 games
27g / 12p / 39p pro rated to 82 games
EDIT:
Also, since you brought them up, Mony and Johnny numbers starting on the same date (Feb 21st) to the end of the regular season.
JG -> 7g / 19a / 26p in 23 games
SM -> 8g / 15a / 23p in 23 games
(two more games for JG/SM because Ferly missed two games with mumps)

27 goals. That would be tremendous.

These stats show exactly why going out and finding a new top line RW is not even close to being a priority for this team.
Ferly is our top line RW.

He was better than Chaisson I will give you that...he was not "good" or "terrific" in the playoffs not saying others were but many have said he played really well.
I don't think 39 points (pro-rated) is all that good playing with a passer the caliber of JG. Look its not that I think he is a bad player, I just hope there is a better option for the first line. If not I hope he can take it to another level and prove me wrong.

39 points is not fantastic, but if 27 of those 39 points are goals, I can live with it. Someone has to score, right?

I think Ferland was good in the playoffs, and I thought Monahan was fantastic. They didn't get points, but their point totals sure weren't indicative of their performance.

Two point per game forwards with a half point per game 3rd wheel is a more than passable 1st line. That's actually a deadly 1st line.
Keep in mind their were only 9 point per game or better forwards in the entire league last season.
Even if Mony dropped off a bit to 0.8 it's still one of the more productive 1st lines in the league. Top 10, or maybe even top 5?

This is absurd. Ferland wasn't on a power play unit. Almost no one on the team scored goals outside of the power play. Not Sean Monahan. Not Johnny Gaudreau. So Sean Monahan only "almost scoring" isn't good enough to be a top six center? Never mind that absolutely ****ty sample size of four whole games against a hot goaltender in Gibson.
Just because Ferland is playing top six, doesn't mean he is expected to produce in the same way as guys who are getting power play time. That's because he's not on the power play. At even strength, he produced as well as you could ask anyone to, and that's what is being discussed.
Fact is Ferland produced 1.47 points per sixty minutes at 5-on-5. There were ten guys (800+ minutes) who scored between 1.45 and 1.50 P/60 last year:
Boone Jenner
PA Parenteau
Kris Versteeg
Brayden Point
Brandon Dubinsky
James Neal
Sebastian Aho
Brian Gionta
Patrick Marleau
Micheal Ferland
If you ask me, that's a bunch of guys who most consider consistent offensive producers, but it's a double standard when that player plays for your own team and doesn't play on the power play.

Question for you guys.
I like Drouin.
How do we get him without giving up:
Gaudreau, Monahan, Bennett, Hamilton, Brodie, Backlund, Ferland, Jankowski?

Using those pro-rated numbers also assumes some consistency had he been on the top line for 82 games. Something Ferland has yet to show in his NHL career.
As I said IF he is there I hope he proves me wrong...to me though JG is one of the best passers in the game, I would like a more established scoring RWer on that line with Ferland on a very good 3rd line. The team we had last season wasn't good enough, not even close.
all this being said it would be my 3rd priority
1. Goaltending
2. Top 4 D
3. Top line RWer
If they don't address all three the Flames will be an average team IMO

In his "two full seasons" NHL career.
We're talking about a relatively inexperienced NHL player in that context.
But as was the case with your "everything always goes wrong" episode yesterday, you're looking at the glass half empty.
I think everyone can agree Ferland needs to be more consistent. Most players with just two full NHL seasons do.

How to get into cap hell? Spending big money on your smallest/non existence problems, like our first line RW.
Real problems: Goalie, #4 D. I hope we dont add a forward this offseason.

Agreed but I would add third defense pair to that list. Our 3rd pair absolutely killed us throughout the year and into the playoffs between being constantly getting hemmed in, and as a result, putting more pressure on the other two pairings to provide offense that good teams will get from their third pair in soft minutes.

We'd have to acquire Cammalleri, and it would have to happen now.
