Then there is zero chance a trade would get done.
Teams would be all over Petterson. Vancouver would not need to take the largest cap dump to do that trade.

Coaches get fired for treating players like that, players should be held to the same standard if they are treating teammates like that.

I think this had something to do with JT’s little mid-season break.

At the moment our top 6 RW'ers are Pospisil and Coronato. Pospisil has shown chemistry with Hubey and Kadri and I have very little interest splitting them up. Long term having Coronato learn how to become a top 6 player from both Backs and Coleman is great for his development and for this team long term.
Throwing him on the third line also becomes slightly problematic as he would be where he is right now in Jersey and either of Pelletier or Sharky would need to drop down a line. Sharky isn't a fourth liner and shouldn't be anywhere near a fourth line. Pelts can play there and has shown to be effective there in the past but this wouldn't be providing the opportunity for Mercer to pop.
I would love to have him on the team but for this to happen Pospisil would need to no longer be effective in a top 6 role as he would need to be in the top 6. No point to bring him in to be a bottom 6 player.
|
If you can acquire a player like Mercer at a reasonable price that you can live with, you do it. Where he fits on the current lines is largely irrelevant - you're acquiring him to be part of the future core you're building.
(that's why I am not keen on acquiring Pettersson - he will be old before a decent core can be assembled)

In the hockey bro culture being a loner isn't ideal for the rest of them but it's not something that should split a team. Maybe TJ Miller shouldn't have been a dink to a 22 year old player (going by Brad Richardson) and been more supportive. Loner doesn't mean bad teammate. And on a roster of 23+ players and hundreds of staff and support staff not everyone will be the same and get along.
Make it work.

^I watched the LOTR trilogy during Christmas. I was surprised how well it held up for something filmed in 1999-2000, it is better than the Amazon show by a mile and the battles were executed so much better than anything recent like Game of Thrones.

That’s fine by me, I’m not huge on a guy like Petterson who has difficulty in the playoffs.

Right?
Combined with a MAGA/Thin Blue Line idiot asshat bullying him making a workplace toxic combined with the media and fans.
He’s an introvert who doesn’t share in the “Bro / Spittin Chiclets” culture.
I’d request a trade out too.

He had one poor playoff out of two years. And that poor playoff was proceeded by a poor year.
