Agreed.
We were declared the runaway winners of trade deadline 2009, at the end of the same day, IIRC.
Didn't work out too well for the rest of that season and the playoffs, however.

I have to chuckle, Flame fans ridiculed Oiler fans mercilessly for getting excited about the draft the last couple years and now fans of the flaming C are exhibiting the exact same behaviours and it's all good ...

I've been told by someone who played collegiate goal and watched him a lot in Halifax said that he gets beat long range and has the biggest 5 hole he ever saw.I told him he'll probably be a 1st rounder he laughed and said "suckers", the only reason he even played is because they had nobody else at all.
I know he's only a former collegiate goalie but I'll trust his judgement on this one plus I don't agree with taking a goalie in the 1st round anyway.
I think I would puke on Feasters driveway if he took him.

What are you trying to accomplish?
When the Flames have the 1st overall pick 3 years in a row then you may have a point.
Otherwise you're just trolling.
Trolling from an organization that's been worse in almost every aspect so yeah, good for you.

Trust me it makes me a little sick to my stomach. Also the Flames fans are not throwing around confetti and ballons on national tv like Edmonton was.

You'll have to excuse us. We aren't used to cheering for a team that picks in the top 10. It's been a while. You, we'll, you're accustomed to the hype of being the worst team. So, enjoy looking down you're nose at us. Imagine how bad it would be around here if the Flames farm team that was iced at the end of the year was as bad as the oilers nhl team has been for the last 4 years? Insufferable.

I'm not looking down my nose at all, I understand the excitement, perhaps you now know Oil fans were excited. God lord .... thin skinned ...

I heard some chick on Fan 960 say that the draft party is down at the Dome - yeah. I hope our existence doesn't turn out like our brethren to the north.

When we have streamers celebrating our first overall pick, maybe then Oilers fans can talk trash ... until then, savor that celebration of failure losers.

Oilers fans were excited because they had the number 1 pick the last 3 years- and for the most part, those picks were no brainers- no one even probably even remembers who they picked after that. This is the first pick in the top 10 since Dion Phaneuf was drafted years ago. The reason for that is, we havent sucked as bad as Edmonton.

You guys would be doing the same if we were the ones picking 1st overall three years in a row. Besides it's a new era for the Flames and we are excited to see where it goes and we have more than one first round pick for the first time in franchise history. Is their anything wrong with us being excited?

I truly hope I never get to experience how terrible being the worst in league is. 6th overall is plenty enough suck for me, thanks.

We have Brossoit, Gillies, Ortio, Berra, Ramo. These guys need a job full time someday and are very decent prospects. I'm not sure what part of WE DON'T NEED A GOALIE, some people don't understand here. You don't waste a first round pick in a deep draft on a position you are well stocked in already. It's not rocket science. You pick what your team sorely needs. In our case, it's skill, scoring, size and those with a high compete level.

I'm not saying I want Fucale, but he is probably like 3 years away from seeing the NHL, and like even more until being a starter - just based on the way most goalies develop.
A lot can happen in that time. A team should not draft for current needs.

the flames do have a lot of goalies in the system now, though i don't think that should be confused with "depth" or a "strength" of our prospect pool.
Gillies had a solid first year at college, and brossoit has done well on a good team, though the next year or so will be telling on whether he has what it takes to make the transition to playing against men.
That being said, burning first round picks, unless there is a high level of confidence in the prospect, i just rather see forwards/dmen being picked. goalies are just too hard to judge at the age they are drafted. So i have no issues in the flames drafting goalies every year, just as long as they aren't using 1st round picks to do so.

What's with the raging on Walter? I see nothing insulting about his post, like a school yard around here.

I've always enjoyed the draft. Attended the Calgary one and follow every single one live on TV. I'm just not used to the Flames having many picks in the first two rounds and it's been a long time since the franchise had a top 10 pick. It's kind of a nice change to see the Flames fully participating in a draft for once even if it meant they had to suck to do it. Hopefully the days of trading 2nd round picks annually like they were burning a hole in the GM's pocket are a thing of the past.
