I dont think ALex smith is bad at all. the game against seattle was pathetic but how he played against the saints says alot. He gets the ball out pretty quickly and can run the ball when he needs too. I think its way too early in the year to say hes terrible.

Figured, it sure looked like it was going to be pretty serious, he played a solid game last night. Poop.

I dont think Goodell can do anything until the case is heard. The team however will probably suspend him and IIRC he was already on probation for punching Lebrons buddy in Cleveland last year.

I think Goodell can invoke the player conduct policy regardless of whether the case is heard or not. In the past, Goodell has often elected to wait for the court system to get its first crack at the player before handing down an "NFL sentence" but not in the case of Roethesberger, for example.
Unless of course, "until the case is heard" means until Edwards is charged with a DUI or not and not until the case is adjudicated.
Edit: That said, according to this article, the team is reviewing and will take appropriate disciplinary action... likely Goodell will step in after the police formally charge Edwards.
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/201...html?eref=sihp
The article goes on to say that the Jets have a team program set up to take care of players if they choose to go out and drink:
Quote:
Tannenbaum noted the Jets have a special program for players: If one goes into a social setting and plans to drink, he can call for a driver to take him home.

According to a league spokesman, DUIs are reviewed under the NFL's substance-abuse policy. There is no automatic suspension under any circumstances. The league isn't commenting on a possible outcome or specifics.
The first substance-abuse offense is not subject to suspension for a player, only a fine, which is half of a game check with a maximum of $50,000. It is not known if Edwards ever had a violation under the substance-abuse policy (the program is confidential) and if he would be subject to a suspension for a second offense.
The assault charge that Edwards previously had while in Cleveland is covered under the NFL's personal conduct policy and the two can't be used together against a player.
|
Again, Im not sure Goodell can do anything at this point, but no doubt the Jets themselves can.

No automatic suspension, I agree, but with how the NFL handled Roethesberger through the NFL Player Conduct policy, I really wonder how broad of a scope Goodell has.
The point is likely moot, Tranny. You're likely right. The Jets will suspend Edwards, the police/courts will do their thing and the NFL will step in once the police/courts have their way. I'd be interested to see what the NFL could do if the Jets refused to suspend Edwards.

Yeah...he is certainly one of those guys you just know will screw up again and again. His whole demeanor and his on field antics suggest as much...and getting yanked at 5:15AM when there is a practice less than 6 hours later also indicates his attitude is one of "i dont give a crap about anything but myself".
I doubt he plays this weekend for sure...beyond that who knows? The Jets are certainly thin at WR as it is until Holmes gets back, they may try and keep him around as long as they can, public perception be damned. I do know that had this been under an ownership group like the Ronneys as an example, he wouldn't be seeing the field again for a while.

Agreed. This is the scenario where we'd likely see the reach of the NFL Player Conduct policy if the Jets refuse to address the incident themselves.

No kidding. I always had a feeling that if the NFL didn't come down heavy on Roethesberger, the Rooneys would have suspended him for at least as long. I've always liked and have been envious of the Steelers because of the level of professionalism the organization has.

Getting a DUI in Manhattan has to be one of the most ridiculous things anyone can do, there are hundreds of cabs. Getting a DUI when you're a rich athlete playing for a team with a car service setup specifically for you takes you to a whole new and fascinating world of stupidity.
Knowing Jets fans they'll probably throw him a parade. Only half joking.

Impressive showing by your San Francisco 49ers last night. That did not look like the same team that got slaughtered up in Seattle. From what I saw last night, the Kansas City Chiefs will get absolutely destroyed by the Niners in Arrowhead on Sunday.
Too bad for me because I invited a few of my 49ers fan buddies to come watch the game at my house.

IIRC, he had two taunting penalties vs the Pats on Sunday.

Reports flying all over Twitter that Vincent Jackson has been traded. But no reputable sources seem to know anything.
Seems like a trade should be done by the end of the day today. The few teams rumored to be interested are the Vikings, Rams and Redskins.

Well Wednesday is the big deadline for a team to get Jackson and be able to use him in week 5, so it wouldn't surprise me if it happens today.

Hard to say, you can't judge how a team will do next week based on their performance last week. Football is strange like that. How many teams played well in Week One and pooped the bed in Week 2 and vice versa? It's about matchups and many other factors. Just a mistake here or there can be the difference in a game.
Also I believe that teams like SF and SEA are totally different home and away. They can beat anyone at home and lose to anyone on the road.
SF were comfortable last night, big crowd, Monday Night, World Champions in town. They were motivated. They didn't have as many offensive problems because they ran up to the line early and had a quiet crowd. Let's see how comfortable they are with a crazy loud crowd at Arrowhead against them on a Sunday afternoon.
I know you're a Chiefs fan and fearing the worst, but it will be a very close game with the Chiefs having the crowd advantage. If you can beat SD, surely you won't get destroyed by SF.

Just one, they didn't call the 2nd one on the 2 point conversion.

The league cannot suspend him it's in the CBA. DUI's fall under substance abuse policy not personal conduct policy. Unless he has a previous violation in the substance abuse program or if this is considered a probation violation only the Jets can suspend him. I hope they "investigate" for a week and then suspend him against Buffalo.
