Red card was warranted. He gave a chop/slap/punch to the Atletico guy’s midsection or nether regions. Stupid thing to do, and he deserved the red.

Didn’t see the red card at all. I was lucky enough to be in the field side tables so about as far away as possible from it. Two bad bounces ended up in our net and we missed our best three chances. Aird is cooked, Wahling needs to play there
I forgot to mention Aird. I’m sure he’s a great guy (one of my buddies knows him), but he doesn’t look good out there. The player who does (as an aside) is Mael Henry.

I did wonder because there was no protest and he just walked straight off like he knew he was caught.

On the second goal Aird called off Shome from marking the guy with the ball even though Shome had position and then Aird didn’t pressure the ball and a nice pass and in the net. His brain seems fried and his legs are gone

Agreed on Henry. He looks back up to speed!

And well done to Ottawa. They played some nice football and Rodriguez is a baller.

Aird is definitely struggling, he is playing way off of the winger and giving way too much space. He looks like he knows he can’t keep up. Hopefully he’s just not in game shape yet.

We look slow to start the season. Any of Aird, Kamdem and Camargo could all be rotated out of the starting lineup in favour of some younger legs. Would like to see the new CB get in soon in place of Field too.

Aird is not alone IMO. Musse and Herdman have not done well either. The one bright spot is today Elva's finish. Hope to see more of that this year.

Rotate the squad and get some kids in for Tuesday and move on. It's April. Cavalry are terrible in April. It's what they do in October and November that matters...

I watched the clip and it looks like Kamdem hit his below the belt? Otherwise it looked pretty innocuous.

Looked like an elbow to the chest/stomach. Pretty soft but also pretty stupid.

On the replay, which you have to zoom in to see here, he cracks him pretty good. It’s a pretty obvious straight red.

Ya, that's a stonewall red. Wtf is Kamdem thinking?

Gherisamencov has looked good in his cameos and he's about to get a 3 game starting run. Maybe give Harms a start in place of Aird he showed well in his cameo last year.

I really like Gherisamencov. Also he needs a nickname that’s easier to spell/type.

That’s an incredibly selfish play by Kamdem. One of the worst we’ve seen a Cavalry player do, probably the worst. I don’t think it should be a guarantee he gets his starting spot back after his suspension if Gherisamencov does well. He really let his team down

Starting spot? The guy should be given a liftetime ban. Sickening.

Always good to have that calm, cool, rational person around here.

Aird looks bad, but he's also looked bad before then rounded into form and been one of our consistent top players. I'm not willing to write him off yet. Maybe later in the career the off-season training discipline slips a bit.

So good to see Henry picking up where he left off. I think he and Camargo aren't quite on the same page yet, but once they get there, that's a lot of creativity to combine. Huge assumption: Camargo stays healthy somehow.

Tough result, but another fun outing. My guess is there were 5,000+ there it looked pretty full to me.

I bumped into John Herdman of all people (in the exact spot I bumped into Jay Herdman last season lol).

Had a really brief chat, mostly about 2022 WC Qualifying and the actual WC. I didn't think it wise to ask him what he's up to these days or any of the controversial stuff.

I suppose that means he's not hiding out in England or New Zealand.

Herdman was at the last game too sitting in front of us. Was also staying in the hotel with the team in Langford. They all had brekkie together. /scoop

Curious to see how much squad rotation happens tomorrow.

I've heard Holliday is making his debut. No need to rotate Kamdem anymore with his upcoming suspension. Shome is still suspended one more game I think. Outside of that, maybe Elva, Laing, Wahling in?

Maybe something like....

Elva
Gherisamencov - Henry - Myroniuk - Herdman
Baldisimo
Kamdem - Laing - Montgomery - Wahling
Holliday

Then you can bring on more starters

Thoughts from Saturday and some lineup musings for tonight https://open.substack.com/pub/canadi...m_medium=email

I could see something like
Quote:
My XI:

Keeper: Holliday.I would start Joseph Holliday, if you aren’t going to start him against a League 1 Alberta side then what’s the point?

Defenders: Wahling - Laing - Montgomery - Gherasimencov. Michael Harms could (and probably should) make an appearance and I wouldn’t be totally surprised to see him start either

Midfield: Baldisimo, Shome, Henry. I’d play Henry at the 10 to give Camargo a rest and the other two start themselves with a lack of options available. Myroniuk should get in as a sub.

Attack: Herdman, Elva, Musse. Really torn on Musse. Perhaps if Harms gets the start at FB then Wahling plays up from. Do we see Antoniuk or Chanda make an appearance. I’d have Tobi ready to go from the bench but hopefully he can have the night off.

Ultimately whatever lineup is selected has to be strong enough to get the job done and advance to the next round.

If Shome is suspended on more CanChamp match then Myroniuk plays there. I should have checked that

I would not play Kamdem for the principle of it. Good match to see Gherisamencov get a 90 anyway.

If starters are going to play I would rather play them from the beginning, get control of the match, then bring them off, with the exception of Tobi. Hopefully you don't need him.

Are we that confident to not start our best XI?
