The Cowboys early season defense was literally on pace to be the worst to ever play in the NFL.

Thats not on Dak or anyone on offense, that is crosshairs on the defense, the DC and McCarthy for allowing it to continue.
Again because Dallas is like the Leafs stuff like this gets trumped to the extreme. Their defense was bad last season (EXP: -141.7) but still not as bad as say the Raiders (EXP: -211.22) and the Raiders still finished 8-8 despite having a much worse defense than Dallas. Lots of NFL QB's have to put up with bad defenses as that's why they get paid the big bucks.

biggest reason they didn't repeat but with a reduction to cap the chiefs were always going to be in trouble. Mahomes eats up 13+% of salary cap

Yeah it's why I'm not a fan of these massive QB deals as it's making it really difficult to build around QB's. You have a roster of 50-55 guys and one player taking a big portion of the salary cap which means a lot of backup players are scrubs making it really difficult to overcome injuries to starters.

I guess to be fair Fisher does have a torn Achilles so cutting him is logical from that perspective, that's a big cap hit for a guy who isn't going to play next year. But we've seen Mahomes carry a mediocre team nearly to a three-peat, him and Rodgers are guys I don't mind at $40+ million per. But as much as we might view Dak's contract as bad, just imagine what we're going to think when Lamar gets $45 million per.

Yes but the Raiders didnt lose their starting QB did they?

However its true and not "trumped to the extreme"...at that point (after 4 games) the Cowboys were on pace to give up 588 pts on the year.

The record is 533...these are just facts.

I really not sure what you are arguing about.

Hoping Laurent Duvernay-Tardif will come back and play next season. That helps a little and it's a great feel good story.

Both guys are injured. Saves them about 18 million on the cap. I figured they would do this, try to draft a tackle and find a free middle of the road free agent.

Schwartz was an outstanding player but that back injury might be the end of him. Likewise with Fisher and that Achilles. He may not get back on the field again. Was not what you want from a number one pick but he started for a lot of years on a playoff team. So far from the worst #1 overall ever.

Likely they still draft one high?

Cam Newton is re-signing with the Patriots on a one-year deal, sources have confirmed to ESPN.

The contract is worth close to $14 million, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

$14 million for a a guy coming off an 8 passing TD season. So yeah I was wrong to think Dak would have gotten $45 million per in the open market, he would have gotten $65 million per.

14m lol. There's got to be lots of bonuses in there, otherwise that makes no sense at all.

Crap, I was hoping they would get a pylon instead. Assuming it is Plan A of many and Bill would release Cammy if they find something better.

With QB desperation at pretty much an all-time high the notion the Patriots can draft a QB is out to lunch. There's a very real chance, if not likelihood, that five QBs will be drafted before the Patriots pick, and we could really see five in the top 10. Sure they could get a guy later on, but at that point why not see what Stidham can do? If he sucks then great, you can actually draft a QB next year.

You know someone is going to talk themselves into it. "Great leader, reads the field well, knows his checkdowns, avoids turnovers, well coached, underrated arm"....blah blah blah. The fact the Patriots are the most logical landing spot means someone will jump ahead of them.

Of course in the midst of all the QB insanity is Brady signing an extension to help the Bucs cap. Amazingly enough Brady becomes the first QB in Bucs history to sign a second contract. Only took 44 years lol.

I don't understand the Newton contract at all. I'm sure with better receivers his passing numbers will improve but never to the point where he's a better than below average passer of the ball. I just don't understand what Belichick is trying to do post-Brady. It's one thing to get QB play like that when they were paying him less than $2 million but this puts the ceiling pretty low for their win totals as their defense will have to be very, very good next season for them to get a wild card spot.

the 14m sounded absurd, so this makes a lot more sense. But in all honesty, 5m for this version of Cam still feels excessive to me.
