If Kris Versteeg is the answer to all our problems then we are in serious trouble.

This team was never going to trade him, he plays better they won’t trade him and now that he’s destroyed his value they still won’t trade him. This team falls in love with flawed players over and over again. Brodie is Tanguay on defense

The only thing as mind-bottling as Frolik's play is posters in here blaming Smith and/or Brodie!

Wow.

How the hell was Smith supposed to anticipate that... he did all he could.

Brodie was facing frolik, on his forehand... Frolik puts some mustard on a pass that goes to Brodie's backhand side... he only risks tipping the pass and making it worse for Smith if he tries to play it... just a bonehead move by Frolik.

The most concerning thing about this loss is the weak mental attitude after giving up the tying goal.

Yes Frolik screwed up but it happens especially for a guy coming back after a long layoff. The team needs to gather itself after that and really a leader needs to step up and say "okay, that was a freak thing, let's get our #### together as we still have a game to win".

How they just stood and watched on the very next shift is the really concerning part. It's like they already lost the game.

Really showed all of us that this team does not have what it takes. It’s not a contender whatsoever, contenders don’t fold like this team does, especially to division rivals. Beyond pathetic

I put a WANTED ad up on Kijiji for some mental toughness for this group.

I'm still in shock and this is the first time all season I've felt pessimistic about the playoffs.

The season is on a knife edge. Will the lack of scoring, stupid mistakes, and blown leads continue or is this just a bit of back luck that will end with a long winning streak?

I’m not sure Gio has it in him to tear into anyone.

Maybe Smith is the guy to save the season by taking over the locker room and busting some heads.

Ya I’m grasping.

Gaudreau - longest pointless streak 3 games (once), 4 streaks of 2+ games without a point

Kucherov - longest pointless streak 3 games (once), 2 streaks of 2+ games without a point
Just a heads up with these numbers SuperMatt posted, they don't account for whether the points they actually scored helped a team win the game. Do individual points matter for a team if they eat a loss? No. A loss is a loss.

I did a bit of math on this, and Johnny's longest pointless streak may be three games in a row this season, but between November 22 and December 6, he didn't contribute at all to the Flames winning a game, even if he scored points (scoring points in a loss doesn't matter in a team game that is decided by a single W or L.)

Additionally,
  • Dec 9-16: Four consecutive games where he didn't help the Flames win by scoring points.
  • Dec 20-29, four consecutive games where he didn't help the Flames win by scoring points.
  • Jan 20-30: Five consecutive games where he didn't help the Flames win by scoring points.

Johnny has helped the Flames by scoring in at least 21 of 25 wins, in 50 games played so far, and has a point contribution to win record factor of 84%. But, the team only has 58 points and is sitting at 11th in the Western Conference right now.

For comparison sake, Nikita Kucherov (who is the top of the league in points right now) has had one four-game streak where he didn't help the Lighting win any games by scoring points (in November), and a recent five-game streak in January where he didn't help them win by scoring points. However, Kucherov has contributed points in 29 of Tampa Bay's 34 wins, making his point contribution for Tampa's win record at about 85%. Pretty much the same as Johnny's, but Tampa sits atop the Eastern Conference with 71 points.

Additionally, Johnny's standard deviation of his point spread game-by-game this season (50 games) is sitting at about 1.04, while Kucherov's is sitting at 0.9 (over 50 games). Even though Johnny has about 8 points less than Kucherov, this may indicate that Johnny's points are coming in a bit more streaky with wild numbers; Kucherov's spread of points is more consistent through the season, especially since he has a higher point total.

So Johnny and Nikita are similar players, but to me it seems like the numbers you provided don't tell the whole story. Kucherov appears to have more consistent production game-to-game, with more points, contributing to more wins for his team. Johnny, relatively speaking, is also contributing to the Flames win column (for the wins they have), but is scoring more in bunches and less consistently.

The ad violated kijiji policy in that they were unable to satisfy this most impossible request.

Wow? A guy who wants to handle the puck to a fault, and whose job it is to react to sudden shots is not supposed to anticipate that?

Being a goalie means being alert, and under duress not kicking a rebound muffin on to the other team’s stick

Smith’s situational awareness was garbage. That’s why he reacted like he did, because he f’d up.

I wrote this in the middle of the winning streak and I was called out as not a fan and crazy:

"It is incredibly frustrating. It's why I find it difficult to get excited even though the Flames are playing well (minus the PP), I just know the wheels are going to come off at some point soon."

Voila. You are so predictable, GG.

I might be done with the Flames for a while, I just can't justify staying up to watch even parts of the games. I enjoy CP more than I do the Flames lol

I haven't bothered to stay up late (I live in Ottawa) for a game in weeks. The product on the ice isn't remotely close to being worth the exhaustion I struggle through the next day at work.

Did you just compare Johnny to a career 45-50 point a season guy?
