I agree with this; Lazar has been a great grinder this season, even with a slow start. I love his jam, he seems to be putting in 110% along the boards when attacking.

Well TBQH, hiring GG was a bad decision. Hiring Cameron as assistant to a bad decision is just dumb. So, you are right, he is capable of making dumb decisions and not willing to fix yet.
Last year was frustrating, but I chalked it up to be a new coach to new team, I was able to brush aside my frustration. This year, I have turn my TV off in the second period several times which I have not done since the Young Gun era.

Yes, the stats where I have to compare zero point games with top NHL skaters, but I'm only allowed to look at consistency ratings for left wingers.
Good night, sweet prince.

Even with your lame stats from a random site he is in the top 5% of the league for constantly producing points. Top on the team.

Yup, I’ve done the same thing as well. Just a tough season to watch unfold and it jus seems inevitable that there will be a first round exit if we even get there.

Steinberg used to be objective. He’s just an apologist now. Regardless of the fluke goal, it’s the same story each night. Can’t score, PP sucks, metally fragile, lose at home. Wish the fan 960 crew would at least acknowledge that instead of excuses.

Even if the Flames would have avoided the brainfarts and won this game, I still would have been left with a bad taste in my mouth. Too many passengers and godawful special teams. Something is rotten with this franchise and if it takes games like these to help bring it to light it will be good in the long run.
I don't know the whole problem but I sure as hell know that Brouwer and Cameron are not part of the solution. Trim the fat and get focused.

Woosh. I think you missed the sarcasm.
And Lazar has added nothing to this team that any number of others league wide or AHL wide; even Glass when he was here, could provide in that role. As mentioned, Lazar is here because of Cameron and Cameron alone.
Heard Cameron on the radio too on the drive home as mentioned. Cliches and handling the team with kid gloves.
Bottom line, Treliving did not go out on the limbs he did for this roster to be where it is. And the roster itself has shown time and again, and in the last 5 games outright, that they are as good as any in the league, but intangibles are missing...

Really? I've actually like Lazar's game, especially lately. Like I said, he seems to be pushing hard in the corners, and once in a while creating chances. He's also not a liability on the back check. For a fourth liner, I don't think you could hope for much more. However in Lazar's case, I think many of us saw him as a point producer coming in, to recapture that good season he had with Ottawa. It didn't work out that way, but that doesn't mean he's a bad player though.
Do I think he can be replaced? Yes of course. Do I think we overpaid for him? Yes on that too. And yes on everything about Dave Cameron.

I think he mirrors the Flames beliefs too. The underlying advanced stats say the team is just fine. Meanwhile in the standings, it's just not good enough. There's glaring holes when watching this team.
I feel there's too much reliance on advanced stats forming the flames and Steinberg's opinions

I don’t think it’s intangibles. I think this team has Great depth. I think is a game breaker. The Flames need a 30-40 goal scorer. Probably improves the PP and moves everyone else down a line and gets garbage like Stajan and Lazar in the lineup. Flames need a Taylor Hall Type player in a bad way.
Unfortunately I don’t think we have the assets to add one and Calgary isn’t a free agent hot spot. Kind of comes back to Hamonic. Why he is a good player, he isnt what we needed and the assets used for him are what were needed to address our true need.

Besides the awfulness of the ending of this game, I was very happy with Bennett’s game and I hope he builds on it because this team could desperately use him breaking out.

By intangibles I mean a coach with the mentality that will push thet extra bit out of the, at times in the games to put teams away. Going up against the Oilers 3-0 last week early in the second would’ve turned thet into a 5-1 or more game. Same can be said for Buffalo or the Kings, two teams thet had just as low confidence and they would have packed up and moved on if the Flames gave them any sustained troubles and took the game a bit futher out of reach on the scoreboard, to match the play on the ice.
Versteeg is missed, and without breaking the bank, whether he is back or not, the Flames need to add some rentals to bring more of what a Versteeg brings to the roster, as well as pot a few key goals and the right times in games to prevent the unacceptable letting off of the hook of teams the past 9 days.
Offseason I’m not worried about yet, but Smith’s performances, and great seasons by JG cannot be wasted, and they need to be rewarded with playoffs because this team is good enough, just not lead by a guy thet can get all of what the players have in them, game in and game out.

I am as pissed as everyone else but what is lost in all of the discussion so far is Hamonic's best game in flames silks imo. He was solid in his own zone, he was physical, he was skating well and played loose and confident like I have yet to see from him. If this is what we have to look forward to I take it as one positive out of tonight's debacle.

Well in the pre game thread I asked for a statement game.
Yup got it. “We are just as weak as you thought we were.”

I agree he looked very good, I much prefer him defensively over Brodie. Brodie’s offensive game has hit a wall. I still question wether the assets used to get Hamonic could’ve been used for other areas

It’s too bad Brodie has sucked so bad this year and for most of last year. He could have been a piece we could have used to get a top line forward. We have Fox/Valimaki/Anderson. He’s not necessary, but wouldn’t fetch much at all anymore.

Wonder what Burke thinks of this powder puff team where the goalie and a sophomore are the toughest players?
