Minor players are replaceable, high end ones typically aren't.

Byron makes a more positive impact IMO than Bouma. Bouma is easier to cheer for because he literally bleeds for the team

Turd contracts for stars cripple teams, a couple hundred thousand to a good role player isn't going to force the team to shed salary.

Well, Byron is one of the more useful players we have. He's one of the last players we shouldn't have qualified.

I'm annoyed because he went to arbitration for basically having a motor with no production. This makes me wish we didn't even bother to qualify him
|
Most guys who are eligible for arbitration are not going to want to get lowballed with qualifying offers.

Byron is just another guy on this team and we'd be fine without him.

Same could be said of the whole bottom 6 - Stajan, Colborne, Jones, Raymond. We were just fine without all four, all of November while Byron was playing in our top 6. We were fine without Bouma too, all playoffs.

We really could've used a healthy Bouma against the Ducks.

Ferland is a rookie who only really played against the Canucks where he feasted on Luca Sbisa (terrible excuse for NHL player) and Kevin Bieksa (old player who is being anchored down by Luca Sbisa).
Byron is a second year player anyways, not like he's a 7 year vet.

No, Colborne is a guy who's just there. Byron is one of our best 4 vs 4, penalty kill, tough defensive minutes guys who can also be an offensive spark when the team goes into those lulls where our top line players can't even break through the opposing team's blue line.

Agreed, but we also could've used a healthy Byron, and Jooris against the Ducks. We could've used the subtraction of Colborne and Bollig against them so bad, despite the goals those guys scored.

I'd trade all 5 of those guys to the IR if we could've had Gio for that series.

Not sure if out yet, but NYR offer to Stepan is $5.2M. Stepan ask is $7.25M

Byron is a 13th forward. He is able to step in and put together some stretches of good hockey.
However until he shows he is capable of capitalizing on the chances he creates, you cannot say that he provides more than Bouma - who does capitalize on chances.

I really like what Byron brings. Always seemed to get a lot of ice time in 4 on 4 OT. I get the frustration about not burying his chances but I would really like to seehim play another year. He is still developing.
I take him over Raymond, given their relative contracts.

Really, that's pretty irrelevant, no? Raymond is under contract, Byron is subject to arbitration. It's maybe relevant to a lineup question, but not this topic.

Predicting that Flames do not require arbitrators settlement with Byron either. Gets Jooris deal.

You are right. We are pretty much locked into Raymond at this point as I think he is hard to move. Not relevant here.
Its hard to see where Byron fits in and what the teams plans are. Like I said, I like him and would like to see him signed to a 1 year deal and kept.

All I want for Xmas is a baseball style arbitration just to end this madness, actually I don't even think the rangers are lowballing but Stepan is defiantly highballing.

Stepan does seem to be one of the most underrated top line guys in the league, if they split the difference I'd say it's fair market value.

Really, its that big of a nuisance to you? Either you want to start a WWIII or stop NHL news through a period where there's no other hockey.

Ferland identifying and taking advantage of the Canucks weaknesses does not negate it's value. Are you suggesting this is something Byron could have just as well done had he been healthy?
As for ColbIorne, I like Byron but I take the big guy over him every time. Similar age ( both getting close but still a little time to improve) but Colborne has much higher ceiling IMO and plays a more important role already.
