Its a development camp in July. Take it for what it is.

Yes, I know it's a development camp, thanks.
But anyone that thinks that standing out and looking better than your peers isn't a good thing, well I don't know what to say to you.
This is a performance-based industry. And the guys that work hardest, and can separate themselves from the pack, are the ones that make it.

Janko played well and all but he didn't score 5 goals. I mean how can we even be excited about a prospect like him or any other prospects when they don't score 5 goals and are already penciled in as our first line centre????
The oilers just got another first overall pick so nothing else matters. I mean I didn't see people throw hats for Janko.....

This is exactly what I would love everyone to remember in every draft.
There are no busts drafted on draft day. There are no superstars (maybe with the exception of those 'generational players' - but even then there was Daigle after all) drafted on draft day.
Anything can happen, and it is more important to actually see the players play and develop and see how they are trending, see if they are correcting their weaknesses, etc.
I remember when Gaudreau was drafted, and learning that on the road, opposing fans would sometimes chant: "Hit the midget!". People laughed when the Flames picked him - 135lbs? Are you kidding me??" As open minded as I USUALLY am, I had very big doubts as well. Thought "Oh, the Flames are probably just drafting one of those slick career AHL'ers to help develop other prospects on the farm". He has proved everyone wrong.
Jankowski was a project. People labeled him a bust very early on. Now he is at least showing that he does have very good potential, and his 'bust factor' is diminishing.
You look at a guy like Smith - passed over at the draft? Nothing but a meathead. Right? Kid has got some game.
Kanzig? Seriously? The Flames wasted a pick on a goon, when they can just sign one on the cheap any given off-season? Incredible character and the hardest worker in the entire organization - and BRIGHT!
Never write off a prospect until he actually busts. Never pencil one in until he pushes himself on there, but life is a lot better to live positively than negatively. At 17/18, 99.9% of us on these forums are making complete guesses, and nobody knows a bust.

Regarding McDavid scoring 5 goals, he was playing against the Oilers after all. 5 goals is sort of expected.

Out of curiosity, would Jankowski still be eligible to play in the CHL? He is 20 and doesn't turn till September. I'm not to familiar with the overage rules. I also keep forgetting how young he is because he has been around for so long.

It's just nice to see Jankowski mature before our eyes. And then to have him play in this camp and kind of put at ease a lot of uncertainty as to whether he's progressing well enough is a nice feeling.
There's a lot of great talent out there in this development camp and he stood out in a big way ll week so far. With today being the real eye opener. Who cares how little some think of this camp as a barometer. Wet Blanket the crap out of it if you want.
Doesn't change the fact that people all over took notice today in a good way.
How about Kylington? Didn't hear a bad thing about him today either. And by all accounts has gotten better the more comfortable he felt on the ice. That's a great thing to me.
Klimchuk, owning the practice sessions like a boss showing his promise.
Everyones had their moments this week and we shouldn't toss them aside either "because prospect camp".
I think Baillie gets a contract after this week, the Flames can ink him to one before AUG.25th.

It's crazy to think about. Jankowski was drafted a year before Monahan but is only 29 days older than him. Monahan will be entering his 4th season in the NHL when Jankowski plays his first season of pro hockey.

Kylington seems a very driven individual. Knows exactly what he needs to do to get where he aspires to be.
Shame he's playing in Sweden this year because I would liked to have seen him in the CHL.

I'm transferring the files to my computer now and then up to youtube. Might take a while, but I'm hoping to get the files up by 2:30. I'll upload them in this order first half - second half - OT - Shootout 1st half - Shootout 2nd half

No he isn't. He's 20. Right around average age at this camp.

Is he definitely playing in Sweden? Everything I've seen says he hasn't really decided where he's going to play yet. His WHL rights are owned by Brandon, and he could potentially play in the AHL as well.

Jankowski's bday was 2 days from being ineligible for the 2012 draft. For that reason I think it's fair to compare him to the 2013 picks we have.
1st rd (6th) SEAN MONAHAN - C (Ottawa - OHL)
1st rd (22nd) EMILE POIRIER - LW (Gatineau - QMJHL)
1st rd (28th) MORGAN KLIMCHUK - LW (Regina - WHL)
3rd rd (67th) KEEGAN KANZIG - D (Victoria – WHL)
5th rd (135th) ERIC ROY – D (Brandon – WHL)
6th rd (157th) TIM HARRISON - RW (Dexter Prep – HIGH-MA)
7th rd (187th) RUSHAN RAFIKOV – D (Yaroslavl 2 – RUS-JR)
7th rd (198th) JOHN GILMOUR – D (Providence College – H-EAST)
Monahan is clearly the crown jewel here, but Janko is at or better than Poirier or Klimchuck RIGHT NOW he's still far from a bust. If he's still toiling in the AHL 3 years from now sure, but showing promise (based on what I've read in this thread) puts him right on line for an NHL trajectory.
I'd love to see him in the AHL, but another year in school might not be the worst choice.
