"We tried. We made multiple offers. We made offers of salary-cap levels," Feaster said. "All of which were met with 'we appreciate it very much, but we still have concerns about whether Tim will be given a legitimate opportunity."
Erixon's claim that young players don't get a shot at playing was nothing but pure B.S.........he had his eye on New York and used any excuse to make it happen.
Poor character......

which is why this is hopefully a wakeup call to the Flames

"He's my buddy!" -- Feaster quoting his phone conversation with Horak in reference to joining Howse on the Flames.

And if we draft a Joe Nieuwendyk type player like we did with one of the picks we received, it will be 'Tim who'?

While i sort of agree with what you are saying, the fact remains in teams of the past, Sutter would have almost every roster spot filled with veterans before camp started. Being a rookie i am sure when they showed up for camp they already thought they had no chance. It's still all BS on the part of Erixon and his agent, considering Feaster told them things were changing, and he would have a great chance to make it this year or the next.

my two cents:
Believe we can all agree that what we received in return we did for Erixon was better than the return we got for Phaneuf. Can only imagine the package we would have received under the old regime, really believe that Erixon would have re-entered out of principle and the comp 2nd round pick would have been all we had instead of getting an improved return which is kudos to Feaster. The draft picks are akin to receiving a gift certificate where you get to pick what you want and provides some flexibility.
Trade boils down to a 1st (Erixon) and 5th rounder for 2 2nds and a 5th (Horak), and is not an uncommon trade to see on draft day. Prospect is intriguing, and while not deemed at the same level as Erixon, shows some promise of one day playing and adds an offensive prospect to the mix. Should help Abbotsford in the offensive department which is desperately needed and the kid may thrive under Playfair.
Truly hope that unless Feaster can get into the top 8 he holds the picks and gives us hope for the future. As someone else has mentioned, Feaster will have more 2nds in this draft than Sutter did over his whole tenure (maybe not, but it is refreshing to see a progressive change in direction after the reign of error we have seen over the past 6+ years). Hope that the purge continues with more draft picks added and we develop players who want to adorn the Flaming C.

I know its not good to get into the numbers game, but a team trying to "reload" (J. Feaster), should be concerned in not having a single first round player in their system since 2008....

True and good point. The actual truth is that's more than the Flames got for Phanuef and Aulie. The Flames gave up the two best assets in the deal and in return received three untradeable commodities and patently ordinary defenseman. Man, the damage that has been done to this franchise.......

You know, I always liked Negrin's style of play. This Erixon debaucle could be a big chance for him to be healthy in Abbotsford and earn a call-up. He can sure skate.
Somewhere ........John Negrin is smiling.

Say what you want about Sutter but this never happened with him and the inference that no player coming in under him was ever pumped up to be coming is ludicrous.

You know this is completely BS. The Flames are now the first and only post-lockout team unable to sign their first round draft pick. It's an embarassing day for the organization. Sure Feaster got "something" for Erixon but the Flames allowed Erixon to get what he wanted. This sets a bad precedent. I hope Erixon flops and the Flames draft two star players with the 2nd round picks.
With that said, this might be one of the better drafts to pick up two 2nd round picks. It still sucks to lose Erixon who is actually looking like a good late first round pick for us.
For those who think Erixon would have been a top 5 or even top 10 pick in this year's draft, you're dreaming. Erixon might fetch a mid round pick at the most if there's some team who had their eye on Erixon two years ago.

Realistically what was Feaster supposed to do? Give a big eff you to Erixon but get nothing but pick #53 in return?
It doesn't make sense. This is 100% on Erixon and his camp.
