Not sure what a pitcher can do with Bautista. Slowey had two chances, and couldn't figure it out. Ludicrous what he is doing right now.

The only question this game is if he'll actually be able to hit during his last up. If I were a pitcher, this game is over and I'd give it a shot to strike him out, but I can't understand how more pitchers are not intentionally walking him. No Jay is hitting like him and it's better to take your chances against someone else.

The rest of this month, the Jays play 9 games against easier teams (Tigers, Astros, White Sox) with 7 coming against good teams (Rays, Yanks, Indians)
Next month is probably the easiest of the entire schedule. 16 games against easier teams, with a 3 spot against the Red Sox, Reds, and Cards and 1 against the Indians.
Because of that, the jays could be 5 or 6 games over .500 by the end of next month, which would be pretty good considering our start.

It seems whenever I turn on the Jays game and Bautista is up to bat he goes yard.
I also drafted Kinsler in my pool and Bautista went right after. Stupid mistake.

Wow....some pretty high praise:

Great article by Shi Davidi on Batista and his preparation and intelligence. Amazing dedication! Definitely a must-read.

Two and a half hours before game time Friday evening, Jose Bautista strides through the Toronto Blue Jays clubhouse clad in an orange T-shirt and black workout shorts, a stuffed yet neat binder tucked under his right arm.
“Let’s go, position players,” he calls out. “Meeting time.”
...
A good student growing up back home in the Dominican Republic right through his days at Chipola Junior College, Bautista takes a scholar’s approach to his analysis of opposing pitchers. Incorporating input from Gaston, Murphy and former teammate Vernon Wells last year, he now dissects video with a thoroughness that would make even the most meticulous CIA analysts blush.
...
“I try to have a nice idea of what the pitcher might try to do to get me out. I kind of put myself in their shoes and look at things from the other side.”

I've never been this excited about a Jays batter ever. Bautista is the best player in the league and if he keeps up his OPS, he'll join Ruth and Williams.
Fangraphs are already saying this contract is a steal based on a sample size of 40ish games.

In minor news, Jason Nix was activated from the DL and David Cooper was sent back to AAA.
Next thing to watch is, will Adam Lind get back into the roster or will he be placed on the DL?

I am stunned teams are still pitching to him considering what is behind him in the lineup. If I'm Anthoupolos I'm advancing the timetable on improving the club, the East is relatively open and you have the best player in baseball.

I really like the way Buck calls a game. I thought Ashby was pretty good, too. Both know what they are talking about, have enough stories to spin when the game goes through a lul, and are smart enough to be able to tell the difference.

Lind has passed a series of tests and feels no pain, but won't be in the lineup today for an 8th straight game. Hopefully he continues to be pain free and can get in the lineup in the next couple days and avoid the dl.

Best player for half a season in baseball.
I am not sure how wide open the East really is. What would scare me most if I am Anthopoulus is how good the Rays are doing. The Yankees will add another pitcher and get Hughes back so they aren't going to get caught, the Sox are starting to put it together and unlikely to get caught, so with the Rays looking like they are better than expected not sure who the Jays beat out for a spot in the play-offs.
I think the best thing to do is stay the course and hope that with new play-off format that one of the top 3 will slip up some year and then the Jays can take advantage then.

The Rays are really hit and miss. They looked awful the last two days at home against Baltimore. But they will probably get up for the Yankees tonight with Price on the mound. Jays need to beat the Yankees later this year, they're in turmoil.

Bit of a rough 1st inning for Drabek, 1st batter gets on with a hit and then he walks the next 2 batters. However he did get out of the inning only giving up 1 run.

After that 1st inning, Drabek really settled down and pitched a good game, only giving up the 1 run and 3 hits. Now hopefully Francisco can close this one out.

So you don't believe Bautista is the best player in baseball right now?
...and by having the east more competitive that helps the Jays as the Yankees, Red Sox and Rays beating each other will prevent a runaway. The big thing that will sustain the Jays is their bullpen, which has been excellent, but they need another legitimate bat.

Nope. I think he may be playing the best right now but his short term good play is not enough to overtake a guy like Pujols who has been great for the past 10 years.

Not sure how having 3 teams better than you is a good thing because if they beat each other than they are also likely beating you as well.
