The shocking increase in uppityness since the 1960's has clearly caused this backlash, abortion, gays and legal weed are all just going to be collateral damage to where this is actually going

Man, and I thought my outlook was bleak.

I'm not entirely sure how morbidly facetious you're being but this has a non-zero chance of occurring.

Winning elections by improving the material conditions for average Americans would probably piss off too many donors. Better try to squeeze as much life out of "orange man bad" as you can.

Total aside, but that was dumb. It was always dumb, and it's still dumb. Now they've merged into Stellantis and the company has an absurd number of brands with a ton of overlap:
  1. Chrysler
  2. Dodge
  3. "RAM" (Dodge trucks...)
  4. Jeep
  5. Fiat
  6. "Fiat Professional" (Fiat trucks & vans)
  7. Lancia
  8. Alfa Romeo
  9. Maserati
  10. Peugeot
  11. Citroën
  12. DS ("fancy" Citroëns...)
  13. Opel
  14. Vauxhall

Only 7 Republicans in the house voted for legislation to codify the right to birth control into law. What a world.

I'm surprised it was even 7. I'm also glad that the Dems are passing it in the House and then get the senators on record for killing the bill.

In the end, abortion will be fought at state level. If the numbers are true that the majority of Americans, 70% plus even, support some form of abortion, 16 weeks, 20 weeks, 24 weeks, whatever, then they should be killing it in future state elections. Democrats currently lose more state governor, senate and house races than they win. But I'm not sure that number (the 70+%) is as high as people think or that's it's important enough to trump other Republican voter issues.

Not with the way gerrymandering, the courts, etc., are currently set up in most GOP-controlled states.

Governor at least. That's not gerrymandered. Start there.
Or why does Vermont have a Republican governor?
Or even worse why does New Hampshire (a blue state!) have a Republican Governor, Senate and House? Sununu set a record in 2020 for the most votes received ever.

I guess we'll see but I agree with rubecube I think all the other factors will override any shift in voting that results from overturning Roe. Maybe an enthusiasm gap will help (more people say they are more likely to vote if they disagree with the SCOTUS than if they agree).

That's up to the Democrats, to create enthusiasm and outrage.

There's plenty of outrage and enthusiasm, there always has been. Not enough tangible plans and actions. Outrage and enthusiasm is the Dems version of hopes and prayers.

Part of me wants that to be a short, miserable life but part of me wishes he’d have a long, miserable life in prison.
