If the Deomcrats wanted to make me actively root for a Trump appointee, this is how to do it.

This was based on her donating to FIRE. FIRE is a civil liberties group that represents students in cases where university bureaucracy deprives them of a fair process. I have donated to FIRE. It's a matter of procedural justice rather than witch hunting.

The Education Department has instructed universities to adjudicate claims of sexual misconduct using the low “preponderance of the evidence” standard, in which the mere 50.1% likelihood of guilt is sufficient. FIRE argues that a higher standard may be necessary—particularly given that campus judicial systems typically lack many if not most of the procedural protections available to defendants facing criminal charges, or even civil liability, in a court of law.
|
In other words, if someone's charged with sexual assault, that's a matter for police, and not a campus tribunal with no judicial capability and no rules of procedural fairness.

Well then you obviously missed the rest of her humiliating performance. She is very likely less qualified than Ben Carson.

Yeah she is just awful, makes statements about how awful public schools are, wants more private schools and voucher programs, and this is the person we should have as education secretary??

Carson mostly appears to be woefully ill-fitted for his role. He must be a brilliant surgeon given his history, but he has no grasp of what his position would entail and it shows. He lucked into a job he's not qualified for.
Betsy DeVos seems like she angled for this position solely so she could further her agenda, which appears to be gutting public schools and putting all funds into private/charter schools instead. She also doesn't believe that literacy is something American children are entitled to. She also wants to further "God's Kingdom" on earth, and I just wonder what would happen if a Muslim appointee made that statement.
Neither are qualified for their position, but one feels like negligence while the other feels like an actual attack on the department.

Yeah, I retract my "actively rooting for" comment, particularly given her support for religious schools. That whole line of questioning just really pissed me off. As if wanting procedural fairness for people accused of crimes is an "Extreme" position, #### off Bob Casey. Might as well come out in favour of lowering the standard of proof in normal criminal cases while you're at it and accuse anyone who thinks that's a bad idea of wanting more murderers on the streets. It's the same damned argument.

I think this is why it was reported on. The intelligence community fears that Trump could be compromised so they got as much of the info to the public out there. Now it's much more difficult to blackmail.

Politicians gonna grandstand. These hearings, whether we like it or not, are showcases for potential Dems to run in 2020. Get your name out there, up the profile, and of course, fund raise a little.

Awesome comic in today's New Yorker. Love the reference to the Standford marshmallow experiment.

Regarding the marshmallow-snarfer's lack of self control...I'm skeptical that he has the self control to actually repeat the oath of office, word for word, without interjecting something Trumpy. He'll embarrass everyone up there by screwing it up...everyone except himself, that is, since he's a sociopath.

I'd put money on him closing the oath of office with 'Obama... you're fired!'

About as many times as Obama uses "folks"?

Trump proved he could actually use the teleprompter without just going off on tangents. As much as I'd like to think he'll make an ass of himself with the oath, I think he will be able to go 35 words without a "tremendous" or "bigly" or "yuuuge". Plus this is likely the biggest audience he'll be speaking to until he's removed from office, so I suspect he tries desperately hard to have everyone like him.
