Whatever they do tomorrow is basically a trial run for game 1 on Tuesday

I guess I’d pick Lauer at this point.
Hopefully they hold Gausman back Sunday and save him

My understanding is that the home team picks the start time, and they mostly do day games before travel days, and everything else is set for revenue purposes.
But how late can they change it?
Because knowing the results of the Yankees game before the final game starts would be helpful. If the win matters for the division pitch Gausman, but if it doesn't saving him for the playoffs makes sense.
Right now the Yankees/Blue Jays final games start at thr same time...

We never had the starters to compete gausman is not elite. Still dont imo
I thought we make playoffs. I still doubt we do damage. Winning division might still happen. Wasn't expected at beginning of year.
As much as we like to think springer is over the hill vast majority of career is stellar. We need bo to deep the lineup. Kirk is sick guerrero too. I dunno clement is ok so far... no ace pitchers
Realism

First I don’t think you can change the game time when set at beginning of year. Or without months of notice in season.
Second, yes all MLB games start the same time on Sunday for the last game of the year. Dan and Buck talked about that last week. Buck talked about players sitting out to win a batting title because the closest guy went 0/4 in an earlier game and whoever was in the lead then sat out the night game so he wouldn’t also go 0/4 and finish second. So for the same reason they can’t hold back Gausman, if the last day means something he will have to play and can’t wait to see Yanks outcome.
Just like FIFA competitions; last game of group stages have all teams in the group play the same time, to prevent funny business with goal differential which are tiebreakers. Argentina in 1978 as a prime example.

We joke about this but Cleveland is first in the central and actually have a -2 run differential.

That all makes sense - I'm just bitter and channeling my inner Springer about the various calls that have been going against the Jays and daydreaming about potential advantages.
But I'm sure if they tried that the ruling from MLB offices woule be Toronto has to play in the afternoon but the Yankees can delay because they're outside. Or because they're the Yankees, or whatever.

Yeah that's insane. Detroit is +66 run diff and has lost 11 of 12 games (and 20 of 27) after a separate streak of losing 12 of 13 back in July. They had a 9.5-game lead 15 days ago when the current collapse started and are now a game out.

Anybody else doing some kind of "rain dance" type ceremony today for the Jays? Can you imagine the vibe change around here if we win and the Yanks lose tonight?

Plus, Cleveland has the tiebreaker and they could miss the playoffs entirely.

I know we've made the playoffs, but it is deflating that we've gotten to this point. With 4 games left.

So much so that I have no interest in watching tonight. It's the way they're losing that's the most irritating. It's self-inflicted.

Trying to do my part by playing FanDuel and have some RedSox/Yankees bats and Rodon as my pitcher. Although lately I've had luck with whoever I play at pitcher so might go elsewhere.

He's under contract and 3 of the current 5 starters are hitting free agency. He'll be back and there will be a spot in the rotation that will be his to lose.
The free agency class for SP doesn't seem that strong to me this year either (and I don't think you're prying Ranger Suarez from the Phillies or Kershaw from LA)

Who's gonna be the one to step up and lead this team? Springer has been trying, but Varsho might be the guy IMO.
