lol well ya, he can step in and get top minutes. I'm guessing he'll go there to get exposure and leave there as soon as he can.

Toronto is embarking on a 3 - 5 year rebuild. By the time they're good (if they're good and that's a BIG if), Wideman will be 35+ and either retired or on his last season or two. He likely wants to win, so very unlikely he would waive. He'd either go to a contender or stay in Calgary IMO.
|
Wideman might not have a choice to join a "Contender". And the Leafs will be contenders sooner than that.

You should really dial it down a bit.

for the money they're paying him, he'd go anywhere. THere's a difference between wanting to play for your hometown and the hometown wanting you to play for them. I"m sure Stamkos would play in TO if they gave him a max contract...who wouldn't? If the Flames offered that russion 10 mil per, I'm willing he'd want to sign there.
Babcock is in TO for the money. Plain and simple.

Sounds like Stamkos might finish the season with Tampa regardless if he has a new contract or not.

This time last year no one thought he was going to Toronto for any amount. And Buffalo offered more.

No one thought? Completely untrue. A large contingent (including me) figured he'd do exactly what he did - demand a huge amount because Toronto would pay it.
He didn't want to live in Buffalo in the winter? Wow. And I bet, long term, Toronto will be more lucrative, salary aside. Babcock likes his name in the paper. He gets that in spades in Toronto.

I did not see this large contingent last year. Everyone was kissing Buffalo's butts saying they have this amazing future and will be great next year.
