BT being BT, it'd be funny if he's super ticked this article was published and revealed to all the loophole he found.

lol well ya, he can step in and get top minutes. I'm guessing he'll go there to get exposure and leave there as soon as he can.

Toronto is embarking on a 3 - 5 year rebuild. By the time they're good (if they're good and that's a BIG if), Wideman will be 35+ and either retired or on his last season or two. He likely wants to win, so very unlikely he would waive. He'd either go to a contender or stay in Calgary IMO.
Wideman might not have a choice to join a "Contender". And the Leafs will be contenders sooner than that.

And Mike Babcock will never set foot in Toronto.

It's really staggering that Leaf fans like you actually exist.

Pompous, arrogant bordering on bragging about a team that has been one of the worst big-market sports franchises in existence.

For the amount of market share, money and coverage Toronto gets, they are and have been an utter embarrassment for nearly half a century.

You should really dial it down a bit.

for the money they're paying him, he'd go anywhere. THere's a difference between wanting to play for your hometown and the hometown wanting you to play for them. I"m sure Stamkos would play in TO if they gave him a max contract...who wouldn't? If the Flames offered that russion 10 mil per, I'm willing he'd want to sign there.

Babcock is in TO for the money. Plain and simple.

"The Leafs had to go to Russia to find a D-man willing to sign and had to pay a record-setting amount to get a competent coach".

Chris Nichols @NicholsOnHockey
LeBrun on Stamkos, NMC, "I have not gotten any impression at any point that he has any interest in going anywhere."

Sounds like Stamkos might finish the season with Tampa regardless if he has a new contract or not.

This time last year no one thought he was going to Toronto for any amount. And Buffalo offered more.

His contact is up next year. Are they contenders next year? No

No one thought? Completely untrue. A large contingent (including me) figured he'd do exactly what he did - demand a huge amount because Toronto would pay it.

He didn't want to live in Buffalo in the winter? Wow. And I bet, long term, Toronto will be more lucrative, salary aside. Babcock likes his name in the paper. He gets that in spades in Toronto.

They have a top 5 prospect pool which will be consensus #1 after the draft. Babcock was not supposed to make them better this year. The future is bright.

http://www.hockeysfuture.com/articles/133387/team-rankings-arizona-coyotes-head-top-group-that-features-a-strong-atlantic-division-influence/

And there's a good chance they add Jimmy Vesey and Stamkos this summer. Plus a top 5 pick and the Pens mid first rounder + the assets they get in trades.

I did not see this large contingent last year. Everyone was kissing Buffalo's butts saying they have this amazing future and will be great next year.
