I never worked out exactly how it works but I had it happen to me numerous times when changing builds. I don't like def d, so I never used it, but it could be useful to get you started while you don't have cards.

so if you want to be defensive D you're automatically an 86 overall? shouldn't that be something they fixed right away with a patch? Guess I'm staying defensive D until I get more cards.

The downside is you get the stats as they give them to you (ie. you can't modify). The upside is when you don't have cards, you'll have much higher in some categories than you would have otherwise.

What is this about "cards"?
Is that to boost my stats? Because the only way I know to boost stats is by playing games...are there other ways?

Chukie was referring to the Player cards (Superstar, Legend etc)
Every time you reach a set played game level and have the needed grade you get extra points to spend on your pro.
