I think we can all take a step back and just be thankful he made the team.
He wasn’t very effective and no powerplay time kept him pretty quiet all night.
I think he shines with more room on the ice, but if he doesn’t get that in Washington either then it’ is what it is.
He was passed on the depth chart here and yea Daryl handled it poorly but I don’t think we have up on the next Gaudreau or anything, I think he’s more likely to top out as Czarnick.

He never played with Ovi that was fake news
Was ridiculous how that was the talk of the town around Calgary

One game.
I hope he gets some PP time and some time with the top guys just so his detractors don't get to gloat too much.

I'd just like to congratulate him in advance for the his first NHL hat trick on Monday night.

There was an extended 4 on 4 time in last night's game but Phillips didn't get out there during it. Could have been because the Pens had Crosby, Malkin, Karlsson and Letang(?) out there for most of it. That was a pretty formidable group.
Didn't see much of the game but Phillips did have a pretty good shot on goal that Jarry had to make a decent save on.

Betting on him to score a goal might be a smart play

That would really up their team toughness and add some work ethic.
I bet she'd backcheck.

Honestly I don't understand those rooting against Phillips to make the Flames "right" anymore than I understand those that cheer against say Markstrom because you've spent the whole summer saying he sucks and you don't want to be wrong.
The first one is cheering the team I guess, but it's over the top.
The second seems like a strange way to support a sports team.

This thread gets bumped if Phillips sneezes near a puck. Whether you root for him or not, there is interest.

Not exactly. Wanting to see a local kid succeed against some odds isn’t really gloating.

Isn’t that saying the same thing? Most of us aren’t in a position to evaluate his play with the Capitals so we’re hoping he earns it. I don’t see a lot of people saying they hope he is gifted something.

Maybe I am missing it but are people cheering against Phillips or are they tired of the excuses that get made for him when he repeatedly shows he is isn't good enough and/or the overreactions to the meh things he does.
The narrative that he was screwed over by the Flames or Sutter has already been shown to be false but there is still a group of fan boys that can't get over the fact he isn't good enough to be a good NHL player.

Some of you are so petty.
If you don't like the thread, don't feel like you have to keep coming back into it.

The truth lies somewhere in the middle
I think it's valid to say he wasn't given a legitimate and proper look in Calgary given his AHL production and apparent skill.
It's also valid to say that doesn't necessarily mean he is a sure-fire NHLer.
I don't think he was screwed over. But I also don't think he was given much of a chance.
As with many things people are arguing on the extremes.
