I would do Lindholm to Dallas for Wyatt Jonston and Jamie Benn all day everyday.
Then I would flip Jamie Benn (50%) retained to the Oilers for Holloway, Broberg and Brett Kulak.

Sec gave an example of how the player could get 8 years and the flames 2023 draft kicks in the other thread that had 8 x 10.5 as an example. Looks like Conroy is still baulkin.

I was looking at it from the perspective of "you can't shoot if you don't have the puck," so not giving them the puck is more valuable than suppressing shots. Which led me to wonder if a guy like Makar doesn't rate favourably in shot suppression because the other team just doesn't have the puck enough to generate as many suppression opportunities.
I didn't realize the stat was simply a quantitative measure of shots against though (in other words, possession is intrinsically factored in).
Edit: Or... in even more other words, I was wrong lol.

Weegar’s the best possession D on the team as well.
61.74 CF% (1)
68.7 CF/60 (5)
42.58 CA/60 (1)
61.57 FF% (1)
57.38 xGF% (2nd behind Tanev - 60.22%)
Shots For/60: 35.31 (2nd - Zadorov 36.88)
Weegar is only 7th among D in even strength Goals For/60 (2.59) but his expected GF/60 is 2.9 - which indicates to me that he’s focused on getting the puck up the ice and changing, and that he’s probably head manning the puck to guys who can’t finish.
Re: Makar - Makar’s 2.09 GA/60 is obviously elite, but he isn’t as good at controlling his own blue line, by a lot - so his 29.8 SA/60 is closer to Hanifin (29.3).
I’d guess because both guys are up in the play more often, and not in position to deny a zone entry.

Well, if you look closely, you'll notice that there is both a kettle and a pot - although neither of them are black. Also, the gun is pointed either east or west (depending on which way the monkey is facing), and one of the monkey's feet is firmly gripped on the BACK of the chair (not the front).
I think this is a very clear representation of the old (and easily understood) saying, "if the mountain is upside down, then snow does't always land on Mars."

How would you interpert this? (not challenging you, just would literally like to know your interpretation)

Outside of the Oilers (who took about 15 tries to get it right) its not exactly a huge correlation to being terrible and then winning.
The 2018 draft was 5 years ago:
1. Buffalo (still haven't made the playoffs)- still rebuilding
2. Carolina - they are good
3. Montreal - one of the worst teams in the league
4. Ottawa - still rebuilding
5. Arizona - still rebuilding
6. Detroit - still rebuilding
7. Vancouver - doing whatever they do
8. Chicago - still rebuilding
9. Rangers - they are good - although really none of their high picks worked out
10. Edmonton - 15 year rebuild finally ended.
|
Carolina won the lottery (they finished 21st) and the Rangers weren't really a full rebuild. The other 8 teams, that were all rebuilding 5 years ago, are still rebuilding, or are just trying to claw their way back up from the rebuild now.
Rebuilds don't take 5 years, they almost always take longer than that.
Sorry, the other 7 (EDM was in the process of clawing their way out of their 15-year rebuild)

I get it....
Conroy is in front of a large pile of books, on the top shelf....but they have no "Book ends". The books are seemingly placed haphazardly, but in fact, are perfectly balancing themselves. It's like the Flames current core, and reflect the general uncertainty of the club moving forward.
The 3 books on the right are supporting the vertical book to the left of them....the 3 books are Backlund, Toffoli, and Hanfin....and they are supporting Lindholm....By removing the 3 books, you may be causing the vertical book to fall!....it makes perfect sense.

Important thing to note about Carolina is they jumped from 11 or 12 to get to that 2 spot. If the Flames didn’t win against Vegas in game 82 where Jankowski scores 4 goals they would have finished in the same spot as the Hurricanes and gifted the 2nd overall pick to the Islanders who had the flames unprotected 1st due to the Hamonic trade from the year before.
The Canes were in their phase of finished 9-11th in the east and missing the playoffs under Bill Peters despite the solid metrics.
You could argue Montreal is on a completely different rebuild now than they were back then

That monkey represents Conroy shooting down all the lowball offers he has gotten.

Lindholm has moved up to number 4 on the DFO trade list. Hanifin in at 8, Toffoli at 9, and Backlund a distant 24.
Dubois, Hayes, Hellybuck on the only guys ahead of Lindholm

In fact, oh and this is way out there, but geez, maybe you should check to see if there were any local bank robberies at the time that were committed by a short, hairy man wearing a powdered wig!”

Confusing why Hayes would be above Lindy. Arguably Helly, too, given his contract demands as a goaltender.
For me it's 1) Dubois, 2) Lindy
