Pretty much this. I find even podcasts like Spittin' Chicklets not that great to listen to because, let's be honest, a lot of former players just aren't very bright or well thought out individuals. Sure some of them become analysts and are decent to listen to, but a lot of them are meatheads with really bad opinions.

Good lord this is an unprecedented level of whining. The amount of salt from the Edmonton media (fanboys) is hilarious. The entire reaction may be even more embarrassing than Kassian's actions in the game.

For sure. Speaking for chiclets, it's great entertainment but it's crap analysis (which isn't why you should be listening)

Every time a former player speaks up in the media about something that happened in today's NHL it's almost always an awful take.

Bobby Mac chimes in - fair hit... he's not especially in favor of that hit, but nothing in the rule book against it.... Mike Johnson didn't see an issue with it so long as it is within the rules.

though i disagree with one part - if they target our skilled players, why wouldn't calgary target their skill players?

When Kassian finally got out of the box in the third, Lucic had a long conversation with him. Kassian was pretty quiet the rest of the game. So it will be interesting to see which way things go when they suit up again.

I think there is somewhat of a Lucic factor, I find even Nurse seems to have gone quiet this year. In previous years he always seemed to play with an edge, not so much this year. Either his GAF meter is zero or Lucic skating opposite is keeping him honest.

Isn't it kind of bizarre that we haven't heard a verdict yet?

The hearing started hours ago, and it is now approaching 6PM in the east.

This is what happens when there is nothing to cheer for, but a good draft and an injury to a rival.
Last year they had the Gio/McD injury, now they have this.
When they are out of the playoffs for what, the 18th time in the last 20 years they will have Tkachuk beating to talk about. As big a win as they can imagine in that dark hole of fandom for the worst team in professional sports.

This is what im not understanding and i just heard the same take on Tim and Sid, with the thinking that Chucky not fighting leads to his own locker room now having to look over their shoulders... No one seems to realize the oilers are in no position to turn any game in to a actual war... They have one guy on the team that is there golden goose and needs to be protected at all costs, we have many ways to send a message if they decide to target other skill players

They're playing that victim card hard. So sick of being losers and treated like losers they've had enough and are throwing tantrums now. Collectively. As one giant mullet loving tack pant wearing community.

And the media are coddling them poor losers too. Aww it's okay little, we know where the big meanie touched you, itll be okay.

I'm in a fantasy pool chat where half of them are Oiler fans, and they were losing their collective minds on Saturday. They were talking about slashing Johnny and breaking his wrists. I responded with, well yah, then we should submarine McDavid and take out his knees. I know they weren't serious (I hope?), but man were they ever salty.

Yeah, this confuses me. The allegation that he turtles don't make sense here. Even if Tkachuk wanted to fight Kassian, how was he communicate that? You're holding the back of the guy's jersey and swinging at him.

I also don't think it's fair to call it turtling when an all-star is challenged by a goon.

FFS this is just moronic and stupid by Corey. I also questioned him about the horse collar and throwing punches at a vulnerable player on the ice, as well as Kassian's history. This is just a really bad look for these idiots

Don't disagree, but I'm fearful of losing Ball/Hrudey/Campbell-Pascal.

There were no dirty hits by Tkachuk. A player should not have to answer the bell for playing a hard, physical, and clean game. What Kassian did was borderline criminal.

I’m so happy the NHL hasn’t fallen into the hysteria the media has. Ray Ferraro comparing that to Raffi Torres is a joke, though Ray is a joke himself.
I think there's some Oilers sympathizers that have been vocal on this topic in the National media that's some of it. And there may be more to it in terms of bias' towards the Oilers.

But overall, I think it's a fairly natural reaction from the game to recoil from a player with the reputation Tkachuk has, and vilify his actions. It comes with the territory, and it's earned a little bit to be fair. This just happens to be a case where he's actually not played the role of the pest, but he's in a bucket, and it's being analyzed as such (thankfully not by the NHL it's self).

The reaction from many in the media and all in Edmonton is what we should have expected if Tkachuk actually hit McDavid with an elbow to the head and he was out for extended period of time and Tkachuk still refused to pay the piper. This is the most overblown reaction to a handful of clean hits to one of the most physical players left in the game. It actually highlights what's wrong with NHL culture.............there's some sub culture that is suggesting the rule book is wrong, and you can't make hits like that on tough player, unless you are willing to let said tough player punch you in the face. So essentially you aren't allowed to play within the rules of hockey, unless you are willing to get your face pounded on as payment to do so. Yup, that ideology will really speed up the game, add skill and excitement versus slow it down and bring back the goon era.

In no way is MT obligated to fight Kassian no matter what these idiots say. But that's fine, if I was MT I would say, you know what, I'll fight him in the next game. No problem, but Lucic is going to challenge McDavid for his BS hit from behind on me.

Good luck

Why on earth would anyone get this riled up defending the honour of Zack Kassian?

If Gabe Landeskog rocked Lucic a couple times with clean hits, I wouldn't be lionizing Milan if he then ragdolled the captain of the Avalanche.

I'd say he was being a whiny bitch who can dish it out but can't take it.
