Kulikov is the #5 guy I'm hoping for along with Stone. They can rotate in and out of the 2ND pairing . Then have Anderson or Kylington as the sixth and seventh d men playing sheltered minutes. That's my ideal d core heading into next season.

I think if we really want a defensive defencemen, Radko Gudas is the guy to target. He's one of the few defensive defencemen whose analytics actually back up their ability to defend. He has a really nice contract, too.
I'm just completely unsure about his trade value.

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
As @PierreVLeBrun reported yesterday, the New Jersey Devils remain a contender for Alex Galchenyuk.
Could the 1st OA pick be involved? Patrick visited 3 cities after the combine for medical testing and further interviews. Philly, NJ, and Montreal.

I could see something like this happening...
To NYI:
CGY 2017 1st round pick
CGY 2018 1st round pick

I wouldn't include future 1st's I'd trade a prospect before that. Next years draft is supposed to be pretty good for talent

I absolutely hope not, 1 first is too much for Hamonic let alone 2. I'm not sure why there's so many people on here thinking hes a better option then Stone or Demers, the numbers and stats and intangibles all point the other way. As others have said this is simply the media hyping up Hamonic more than he's worth, please stay away for that price.

Think he would be expensive.
Flyers brass and fanbase seem to love him and his style of play.
Just don't seem him getting moved unless you take on Andrew MacDonald with him.

Just say no to trading your 1st a year+ out when you have no idea what's going to happen.
I'm in the boat that the Flames are better off finding a couple solid #5's rather than paying more to find perfect puzzle pieces that fit into an ideal. We've already got one of the best top 3 in the league. Between Monahan, Backlund, and hopefully Bennett/Jankowski, I've got a lot of hope for our depth down the middle. Depth on defense in general is what we sorely lack.
Would rather the Flames keep that flexibility for growing internally while trying pieces established bottom pairing pieces before committing to a mediocre defensive #4.

I am still holding out hope that Treliving, aka The Wizard, surprises us all and gets a top 4 D for a lot less than what's being proposed on here

Hey, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I'd like it, but that's the type of cost I can see it being. Though, if they won the cup after making a move like that, methinks I'd get over it pretty quickly.

Third, the Flames believe they have enough scoring in the lineup or expect some players to improve and chip in more goals. Fourth, they don't have the assets to pull off a deal for both players and have prioritized defense above offense. Might mean this could be a boring team to watch this winter as they rely on defense to make the difference.

Why would Tre go out and acquire a goalie that depends on a great defense to be good?
He played on one of the worst defenses in the league and was the very reason many games were won in AZ last year.

If the cost for Demers is similar to that of Reilly Smith maybe the 4th rounder of Florida's we own for next year would be enough.
Then maybe we can still sign Stone for around $3.5M.
Gaudreau - Monahan - Ferland
Janko - Backlund - Frolik
Tkachuk - Bennett - Brouwer
Chiasson - Stajan - Lazar
Giordano - Hamilton
Brodie - Demers
Kulak - Stone
Bartkowski
Smith
Rittich
That roster probably has $2-3 million in cap space. In order to truly upgrade top 6 RW then you would need to get rid of one of Stajan or Brouwer to create more cap space.

I simply can't see the price being equal to what we paid for Hamilton which I believe your proposal is.
The talk on the FAN was the Islanders did not want to take back salary so looking for picks and prospects. I do think the 16th pick is in play but I doubt anything beyond that.
The Flames core is young so they could maybe get away with dealing their first but not multiple firsts.

I wouldn't give up any 1st round picks. No point in killing our future to get a guy for a couple years.

Nawww, Smith hasn't been overly good for a couple of seasons now. Elliott was the better goaltender over that period and we know how that turned out. The age of Smith is showing. Personally, having to watch the Coyotes a fair bit, I was pretty choked when the Flames made the deal. I don't believe his talent can cash the checks his reputation is writing. I expect Calgary to be looking for another goaltender come Christmas, or hoping one of the kids can take the reigns by that point. Treliving likely got blinded by his history with the a player rather than looking at what he currently is. This happens all the time, even around here, and it usually ends up in disappointment.
