Re Tkachuk-I've mentioned before he does not play much of a power forward game. He's physical enough but no big hits/fights etc.
Max Jones is the mean SOB power forward on that team. I'd love to trade our 2nd plus one we get for Hudler/Russell and move into 23-28 range and pick him.
There was some Russian Poster's discussing Sergachyov vs Provorov and here's what the came up with
Defensive zone play - Sergachyov < Provorov
Offensive zone play - Sergachyov > Provorov
Shooting ability - Sergachyov > Provorov
Passing - Sergachyov < Provorov
Vision, IQ - Sergachyov < Provorov
Skating overall - Sergachyov > Provorov
Physical game - Sergachyov > Provorov
Puck skills - Sergachyov > Provorov
Some thought Sergachyov was better on D.
Honestly I thought Provorov was the best defender last draft. If Sergachyov is on par or even better his potential is through the roof. (top 15 defensemen in the league).
If we pick after 7 I hope he's ours.

I started at page 24, so pardon if this was discussed in depth before then.
Assuming we're drafting that high, is anyone else really hoping we stay clear of Laine?
The stories of his personality issues are pretty terrifying. We have a really good group in Calgary now, and someone like Puljujärvi sounds to be a perfect fit.

I completely agree about not being completely sold on Tkachuk either.
For me it's the fact on the USNTDP and now London Knights he has yet to have to be "the man" anywhere. He has been flanked by elite support every time he plays. I'd love to see how he performs in Saginaw or Sudbury where he is THE guy and doesn't get to roll around with 2+ point per game line mates every time his skates touch the ice. I'd rather Nylander or Chychrun and possibly others as well.

Agreed. If we fall out of the top tier, Dubois' all-around game is very appealing.

If you look at some of the top power forwards (Tkachuk, Guerin, Brind'Amour), they were all 6'1" or 6'2". Not everyone is a Getzlaf or Lucic. He might be capped for height but over the next 3-4 years, you'd expect him to fill out a bit. I wouldn't be worried about his size, especially when there's a good chance he's playing at 6'1" and 210 in a couple years.

Yeah, really like Pierre-Luc Dubois. If the Flames get a forward that isn't the two Finns or Matthews I'd want this guy, like him more than Matthew Tkachuk.
Young player in the draft with a June birthdate so still two more seasons of juniors left. Guys like Tkachuk and Julien Gauthier and their '97 birthdays only have one year left really. Love his versatility, can play both wings and has been playing down the middle a lot this season. On offense he isn't the passenger either. He's certainly helped by Evgeny Svechnikov on his wing but not to the point where you question it like Matthew Tkachuk who has offensive star Marmer centering him.
Already capable in his own end as well, gritty, good size. Lots to like here. I'm horrible at comparisons, don't like them much either but if we end up outside the top three he's a guy I would love even at five, six, or seven.
Another Monahan to not picking another Barkov

For what it's worth, Tkachuk was putting up some pretty good numbers before Marner got sent back.

Terrifying stories? As far as I know there's the one well known incident with his coach from summer 2014. Nothing since suggests a bad attitude. Is there something else? It seems he's a hyper-motivated teenager whose ego needed a lesson at that point in his maturation but that doesn't worry me at all if his attitude is great now.

I think Laine's character issues are a little blown out of proportion. Out of the 3 top guys, he's the one I want the least but I'd be more than happy if the Flames got him.

Don't forget about Dvorak who is just as dominant, if not more so, as Marner. Tkachuk has 2 elite linemates potentially carrying him.

I will openly say that Tkachuck doesn't impress me at all and I hope we don't get him. So many better options than him.

I was less than impressed with Tkachuk at the WJCs, but I will confess to being biased on this one.
His father was one of the biggest delta bravos to ever lace 'em up in the NHL. Every time I think about the Jets keeping Tkachuk over Selanne (essentially), I throw up in my mouth. He wasn't just a DB, he was a room-wrecker. I have no idea whether or not his son is the same, but I simply don't want to take that chance.
There are plenty of other good forwards in this draft.

I agree that Tkachuk isn't as good at the top 3 in the draft, but we're probably picking 6th or 7th, not top 3. I wouldn't mind getting him at 7.

E-Mac (Eldon MacDonald) is back with his updated massive draft spreadsheet at THW (downloadable).
Two articles published today featuring this database:
1. NHL Central Scouting’s Midterm Rankings Combined
Link: http://thehockeywriters.com/nhl-cent...ings-combined/
- E-Mac & I through the NHL-CS rankings into a blender to combine them! Actually, E-Mac used his tried and true system of combining the segregated 4 lists to give a more accurate depiction of where Central Scouting is ranking a player.
2. THW's War Room Midterm Draft Rankings, featuring
- E-Mac’s exclusive Top 75 prospects ranked, plus
- 5 honourable mentions
- 3 sleepers
- The Others, where other notable draft eligible prospects are highlighted ( 787 prospects in total are noted on the spreadsheet including all prospects ranked by NHL Central Scouting in their mid-season rankings)

Enjoy! Feedback welcomed and appreciated.

Kind of a similar feeling as when Max Domi was possibility for the Flames a few years back. I don't think Domie was a room-wrecker like Tkachuk but he was a DB and not the kind of guy I'd like on my team. That said I would have no issues with Max Domi on the Flames but this kid does look like he's a level below the top 3 guys and if he's a chip off the old block I would pass as I don't know if his dad's attitude is worth it.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say Tkachuk is going to be a much better NHLer than Marner. I do not think Marner stirs the drink on that line, I would be more than ok if the Flames grabbed Tkachuk after the consensus top 3.

Jim Benning claims the Canucks have identified 15 players they think will be top 6 forwards, top 4 defense. Falls off after that.

Does Benning look more like an old school vampire, or a russian tow truck driver?
