4th/5th I think you're looking at one of Tkachuk and Chychrun. You got the 1st line power forward winger in Tkachuk who has great hands in tight and loves going to the hard areas. Always around the net. Chychrun sounds like the top defenseman to me, don't know his game as well yet but I think he would tempt Treliving and Button.

6th/7th I think you're looking at Chychrun (if he's still there), Juolevi (D), Sergachev (D), Fabbro (D), Nylander (W).

My top 5 right now would be:
1. Matthews
2. Laine
3. Puljujarvi
4. Tkachuk
5. Chychrun

I think Sergachev and Juolevi are the two next most talented players after the top 5, with Nylander being right behind them. After that, there's a bit of a separation. There seems to be a clear top 8 at the moment, with the next group all being similarly talented from 9-15 or so and those guys all depend on what your needs are. A guy like Gauthier might go #9 or might slide to #15. Jake Bean, same thing. All depends on which teams are picking where. If the top 8 are all gone and the Flames are picking 9th, I would expect Gauthier to be our selection.

I really liked the look of Gauthier at WJC, but I think he's more in the 10-12 range IIRC?

Maybe you'll win more games 2-1 instead of 3-2 in that case but you won't fall off the map.
Oh, okay. In small stretches as an injury fill in he'd be okay on your 2nd line. Yeah, that's totally fine. You should have said that at first instead of running your rolling eye emoticon into the ground.

Nylander should be #4 if the Flames end up picking in that spot. I get the Tkachuk love but something bugs me about him. He didn't shine playing beside Matthews in the WJC like I thought that line would. And I have this gut feeling he's riding the coattails of Marner/Dvorak and the rest of that stacked team. I'd love to see what Tckachuk could do playing in a situation similar to Sean Monahan during his draft season. Something Nylander is doing really well doing along side that McCleod kid who's ranked top 15.

Matthew Tkachuk doesn't do much for me either, not a huge fan.

Also an interesting quote:

Quote:
While Edwards thinks there are some very talented players available, he had some thoughts on the draft overall. “I think it’s lacking the depth we’ve seen in some other drafts. I especially notice it in the second round. There are some solid players but when we look around the various leagues as a staff, we feel it’s a down year for depth just about everywhere. A lot of the top Euros are playing in the CHL, so we think it’s a weaker group depth wise overseas as well.”
Perhaps 2nd round draft picks and later will not be so valuable.

I disagree because our second will be a high one. There will be a few guys who get picked in the first that no one thought would and some guys that fall. Our second will be like a late first.

It's doubtful that you'll get guys like Sprong, Forsbacka-Karlsson, Andersson, or Kylington past 30 this year. Last year was a ridiculous draft. A guy like Nicolas Roy went in the 4th when he would normally be a 50-65 OA guy.

Last year was nuts.

That doesn't mean that quality players won't be there, but it's more typical hit and miss type guys than what it was last year.

Hopefully. Then maybe Hudler could get us one and Russell could get at least one.

Anywhere online one could find CHL points broken down into 5on5 and power play?

Nice to see Calgary's own Jake Bean hit the top 20.

I'm in the "not too sure about Tkachuk" camp as well. You'd think Keith Tkachuk's kid would have more than 16 goals at this point in the OHL. He should have more than that playing with Dvorak/Marner.....

I would be very happy of the Flames could come away with one of Laine or Puljujarvi with an early pick. If for some reason we get on a streak, then some how I hope we manage to snag Julien Gauthier. I also wouldn't mind if we moved a couple pieces to try and secure an extra 1st round pick and grab Logan Brown. I wonder if the Coyotes would have any interest in moving Christian Fischer for Hudler or Russell to fortify their lineup as they chase a playoff spot? Would really improve our depth on RW.

For an NHL power forward he's small at 6'1" and 195. He can play that game in junior but at that size I don't see it transferring to the NHL.

Jake Virtanen 2.0

Canucks fans bragging about his 'grit' and offence that hasn't (and most likely won't) translate to the NHL.
