You should be able to build out a decent team using this strategy.
There's two free packs on the store right now, up for zero coins, for the home opener. Get those before it's too late!
If you buy packs with money, don't buy any of the 12 rare, 30 gold with 20 rare packs - wait until the player jumbo premiums, where you get all gold rare players. These have the highest chance of pulling a good player, since you're not wasting rares on consumables.
|
With the packs from collections, are those cards trade-able? I wasn't sure if the free packs were just a way to get some top players or if was part of the puck making strategy.
Thanks for the heads up about the free packs. I went and signed on to make sure I didn't miss them and pulled Mike Green and Ondrej Palat. I know they are small potatoes for most of you guys, but are very helpful to me.
Lastly, an unrelated question - If I apply a captain card to a player in HUT, how do I take it off? Do I have to buy another and apply it to the new player I want to be captain or can I just pull it on and off at will?

You just have to make someone else Captain. I don't think there is an option to remove the C at will.

Once you've applied a captain card, you can't remove it. FYI, you can have 1 C and 2 As on your team at one time.

No, you can't trade them, which sucks when you pull the same guy twice. However, they're free packs and you get a chance at pulling some players that can be added to your squad. I've got quite a few players from doing collections - I could do more, but I just finished Philly's collection, and don't want to kick off Giroux or Vorachek - both of them are beasts.
I played with both Palat and Green earlier in the year - they're both great players.
I believe my current squad is
Stamkos - Bergeron - Hall
Giroux - Monahan - Vorachek
Johnson - Kesler - Gaborik
Zuccarello - Helm - Hudler
Hedman - Pietroangelo
Giordano - Faulk
Fowler - Voynov
Andersen
Mason

My super elite team is mostly a combination of Stars and Wings players as I started rooting for the Stars when I moved to Tulsa and am slowly letting my Wings allegiance die but cant quite do it... And of course my 4th line is anchored by a couple of my long lost QC Flames favorites...
Palat - Eakin - Nichushkin
Tatar - Helm - Jurco
Roussel - Fiddler - Eaves
Nystrom - Gaustad - Prust
Daley - Klingberg
Kindl - Green
Jokkipakka - Demers
Mrazek
McElhinney

I don't know who had the idea of player morale in Be A GM, but I want to smack him upside the head. The concept is a good idea, but the whole thing just seems to be completely random.
Gio and Monahan both come up to me saying how management is doing such an awesome job, and our locker room is great.
I hold a team meeting, and I pick what I think is the "right" answer to say to the players. It fits with the Calgary Flames mentality, and I can hear Bob Hartley's voice in my head saying the sentence that I select. Then the whole freaking team except for Bollig gets offended.
Or I'll trade away Mason Raymond, and Kris Russell becomes all sad and starts to cry cause MayRay was his best buddy.

Then, in the Manage Roster screen you should be able to send down/recall players from the AHL/CHL. Of course, as soon as you send down a Junior eligible player they will stay in the CHL for the year.
In the first year I played Bennett on my third line, and by the end of the year he was an 83 (from growth and positive moral) and playing on my second line.

I *really* wish they would have thought to make morale an optional thing. To be honest I'm not sure it actually makes a ton of difference, but seeing it go down for things that feel out of your control is mildly annoying. I suppose it is realistic though.

Not yet, but I traded away Smid, and a bunch of players got upset. I'm planning on getting a roster update and restarting Be a GM, so I can try it and let you know what happens.

Ok, so I really haven't ever got into any game modes in the modern NHL games and was wondering if maybe I am missing out.
Which mode would you recommend to a newcomer to the series? I don't have much time to play (a few games a week maybe) and unlikely to get overly into fantasy management (just want to play hockey).

The coach feedback system in Be A Pro is terrible. Score a hat trick, "you have failed to meet my expectations in offense". So frustrating.
And what do I have to do to get on the powerplay? I've got 34 points in 22 games in my first WHL season.

Sigh.....I'm so bad at this game. Pretty sure I wasted $80.
Bought it last week. Try the season mode. Get destroyed playing pro level. Switch to rookie, waaaay to easy.
Try some online play. Can't win a faceoff to save my life. Opposition can easily strip the puck off of me, can't get it off of them at all regardless how many sticklifts or pokechecks I try. He can sail across my blueline, I get checked off the puck every time I cross his. Only thing that gives me a chance is the dump and chase. I've got the online play set to only play people my level but I still get worked.
Any tips tricks for a strugglin noob?

For offline modes try adjusting some of the sliders in settings to reduce CPU effectiveness.

Ya, the beauty of offline is you can really dial it in. Everything you've mentioned has a slider, just bump yours up and bump the cpu down.

Try and search for NHL 16 Sliders,
I've found a few that resulted in some very close games. Shots end up 20+ for each team and extremely close scores.
It is on the Allstar difficulty but you can tune that to Pro if its still too hard.

Know I'm late to the party, but just got the NHL 16 PS4 bundle. Only play Be a Pro and so far I'm liking it, seems like quite the change from 14(last one I've played)
Liking the new menu's, coach feedback system is a good idea but needs a bit of work (3 points in a game and rated b- in offence?) but overall it's an improvement. Likely my 5 year old TV but I don't notice much of a jump in graphics.

Pausing in an online game is unacceptable to me, just can't stand it anymore. I really tried to give this game a chance but the pausing was one straw too many. It's simply infuriating to have a pause after every penalty and every goal. Sit and wait and stare, I'm done with it.
