Have to say though, if we traded him for a 3rd and he put up 11 goals and 19 points in the next 15gp with that team, we would feel like complete doormats.

Yeah, and given his history of performing in the playoffs I think I'd rather lose him for nothing. Feaster probably would have given him away for peanuts and the rest of the league would be laughing at our expense for giving a player like that away for a 3rd round pick. At least this way we can save some face by saying we tried to keep him but his demands were too high.
Can't blame him for wanting to go to FA. He probably wants to sign that juicy retirement contract and have a shot to win. My bet is he signs with Anaheim for a contract that will make us glad he didn't sign here.

I could see that. From what i've read from Stars fan is that they need to rebuild their whole second line for next year.

I go back and forth on this so much. I was initially pissed that we didn't move him but when all the pundits lauded Burke for sticking to his guns I came around. At the same time you might be able to get a player in the third round that may help you but you may get Karil Kabanov as well. Getting that extra third may have helped us move 2 3rds for a 2nd which may improve the draft position. Burke could have also justified any deal by saying Cammy has been a loyal soldier (which he has) and he was doing him a favor by moving him to a playoff contender. I just hope that a team gives us any pick for his rights and that pick helps us in the future. Can see Snow throwing a fourth our way to negotiate like he did with Erhoff a couple of years back. Here's hoping.

Burke says Ryan Kesler screwed up the trade market, says it tied up 6 teams waiting for Kesler which had a domino effect on Vanek and Moulson.
|
Easy to make the Canucks the bogeyman as they are a favorite target. On one hand I can see some teams that were interested in Kesler holding out hope they could swing a deal for him. But that didn't prevent Pittsburgh who was one of the teams that was interested from acquiring Goc and Stempniak at the last minute.
The abundance of scoring wingers was the real culprit. Hemsky, Gaborik, Ruutu, Vanek and Moulson coupled with buyers lacking an abundance of draft picks drove down prices. Teams like Ottawa and NJ probably offered a 3rd and when Burke said no they moved on. LA obviously saw Gaborik as a better fit and paid up. Believe when it came down to crunch time only Anaheim and Columbus were left. Anaheim was chasing Legwand up to the end and given that they had dealt a conditional third for Robidas and sold Penner for a 4th they were unwilling to give up a 2nd for Cammy as Murray has said he usually does not pursue rentals (Legwand was an exception). Don't know how serious CLB was but given that they got a second and third for Gaborik I can see Burke demanding a second and telling them to pound sand if they offered a third. Only other team that may have been inteested was Minny who could have sent Heatley back with a pick but they were out of seconds after the Moulson deal.

I have to think that Cammy is seeing Calgary as a possibility, if not a front runner, if he didn't ok a trade.

There was no trade for him to okay
I bet he would've waived to go almost anywhere at the deadline

Surprised Burke couldn't swing a trade for a 3rd rounder with conditions that it could be upgraded to a 2nd rounder or even a first.

...Burke didn't trade him. He never got a deal done because no one would pay what he wanted. Cammy didn't "shut down" any trade.

Ya still hard not to look at this as Burke's first failure here. We are paying this guy more money than anybody on the team for pretty much no reason.
And there is no legit source that said the highest offer was a third. I think that rumor came for Garrioch. Either way if Burke couldnt get more than a 3rd for Cammy when a worse, more expensive scorer was moved the same day for more than that it still reflects poorly on him

They will have to fill the spot and the cap space with someone.
Logical choice seems to be a run at Stastny.
Could see Grabovski and/or Kulemin as well.

Completely unrealistic, but I would love to see Jagr just for one year.

Not sure it's unrealistic at all, unless of course he wants to stay out East. Jagr wants to be on a team where he will play a regular shift, he would be our top line RW. We have tons of cap space to throw 5M at him and we could send him to a contender at the deadline for a chance at another cup. He isn't going to win anything playing in NJ.

I bought one of these for my kid and when I got it home I noticed it was spelled wrong. When I told the lady at the return counter that they had spelled his name wrong on all of the jerseys on the rack she threw it on the pile to be restocked and went on to the next person.

Callahan is the other one if he doesn't re-sign in Tampa.
Glencross-Stajan-Callahan would be a great defensively responsible second line that could help shelter the young guys from the other teams top lines.

Bought this for my kid to wear when he plays his rec hockey. He wore it once per week from the middle of December through to middle of April before I noticed the error.
