Joni Ortio @JoniOrtio 1h
Suomi finaaliin, Kanada jäi nuolee näppejään! Kyl meni kylmät väreet kotisohvallaki kun siniristilippu nousi kattoon. #maamme #U20fi
Safe to say Joni Ortio is pretty pumped.
Google Translates it to: Finnish finals, Canada was left licking their fingers! Cold shivers went kotisohvallaki the blue cross flag rose to the ceiling.

Wow, another tough tournament. Still: perspective. Remember when Canada finished 8th in the WJC in 1998 after losing to Kazakhstan? That was a squad that featured, amongst others: Vinny Lecavalier, Roberto Luongo, Alex Tanguay, Eric Brewer, Cory Sarich (still, Canada's highest scorer was Josh Holden...).
If anything, hopefully this is a wakeup call to the Olympic team that Canada's place in the world of hockey is never a sure thing. As much talent as we have, we can never rely on it to shine through without determination, teamwork, resiliency, etc.
Congrats to the Finns, who must be pumped. I hope they win gold; if we lose I always want to know it is to the best team.

Beer league level passing out there.
Neither Ekblad or Reinhardt look good enough to be first overall.
Putting up a game like that against Russia tomorrow is going to land us firmly in fourth.

I'll have to trust scouting reports on him being a top talent, because he certainly didn't have an impressive tournament, and I haven't seen him play otherwise.
I know this is a "tournament for 19 year olds", but I would have expected a bit more from him.

Haha, man I feel the exact same way. Ever since he had Curtis Glencross doing push ups in the middle of the rink, I knew this guy was a complete joke. Please don't allow this man to ruin more careers.

I have nothing against Sweden, but Finland has always been a country I like to root for.

Team Canada's passing was horrendous.
Either the ice was terrible or the Player's nerves got the best of them.
I think it was nerves.
Not one player on Team Canada showed any heart except for Fucale (Goalie).
I am very worried if I am the team who is picking #1 overall and eckblad and reinhart and projected to be #1

Count me among those unimpressed with Ekblad and Reinhardt. Drouin was selfish and unimpressive as well.
I compare Ekblad's performance at the WCs against Seth Jones' last year and, well, it ain't even close.

I dunno, Reinhart and Ekblad certainly didn't "run over the competition" at this tourney, but draft eligible players rarely ever do. (17-18 yo's)
Usually this tourney is dominated by player who had been drafted already in the previous two drafts. (18-19 yo's)
For instance, Drouin and Mackinnon were nearly invisible at last years tournament.

MacKinnon had a pretty bad WJC last year as well. Stuck on the 4th line and didn't do much.
World Junior performances do not necessarily project to NHL performance.

I agree, I kept watching to see what was so great about Reinhart, he looked very ordinary to me, maybe even below average.

Pretty much. I remember during the epic Russian collapse everyone was crucifying Erik Gubranson's play and when the Panthers made the playoffs he was getting nothing but praise.

Seth Jones certainly did!
Regardless, I actually thought Drouin and Mackinnon brought a decent amount of tenacity/energy in their limited ice-time last year. Drouin, especially, looked very good to me last year.

I didn't think either team played that well today at all so and neither looked better to me. Take away the bounce and some iffy calls and Finland didn't look like they could create any threat to Canada.
|
And I actually thought you knew what hockey is.
The Finland - Canada game. I've never seen Canada get dominated like that, not in any level. Finland turned the tables and became Canada in that game.

This seems to me like a very silly thing about which to worry. What is a team to do; refuse to draft the players available? No. If Reinhart or Ekblad are the two best players there, the teams that draft #1 and #2 overall have to take them. What is the alternative? Do you see other players that are clearly better options?
