Are they large (like watching widescreen content on a 4:3 TV) or small (like your overscan is off)?

I'm considering switching and have a question - can you customize the TV packages. That is if I start with the basic TV package can I add channels like TSN on an a la carte basis?

You can add "packages"

$12 for most packages with HD.

I priced out Internet at $39 and TV at $54ish....

TV included

Basic Cable + HD
HD Timeshift
HD Sports

edit: oh, but their website is a pain to navigate through. You can't pick a combo package and then customize your TV

We signed up on the weekend at the Telus store. The sheet they gave us had the "Essentials" and then we picked 7 of the 15 packages to complete our channels

Something I found out today that I thought I would pass along:

If you sign a contract with Telus and get a free xBox and then cancel and pay out the fee - you also need to pay the cost of the xBox as well.

The one thing about Telus channels, their bundles are very constrictive. I just have the essentials HD and then a bunch of Ala Carte.

I dont know why they cant have and pick 5 packages.

Also CBC HD is from Vancouver, not Calgary.

Not sure what the CSR told you, but you can pick packages. We have the essentials, plus 9 HD theme packages. I believe they called it the "Your Pick HD" package.

Also, a couple of months ago they added CBC HD from Calgary and Edmonton. If I remember correctly, the CBC Calgary HD Channel is channel 600.

Correct, you can pick packages but if you want TV Medium you dont get to choose the packages, you have to take what packages they give you.

Example you dont get Sports in the Medium package.

Also, you cannot just get the HD channels without the SD channels. Why oh why would I need to the same channel twice.

Ahhh...didn't realize that with the Medium package. Good to know. I just made an assumption based on the package we got.

It does suck that you cannot get HD channels without SD channels, but I believe that is a CRTC thing that affects all carriers. I could be wrong, but I don't think anyone offers that.

A big issue with Satellite and Cable is that the content providers force you to sell certain channels when you take one of their premier channels.

For example TSN has to be paired with the Golf Channel and cannot be sold individually (for TELUS).

I just dont get why if all the bundles are the same Ala Carte price, why I cant pick and choose the 5 bundles I want in Medium rather than take pre selected bundle choices.

I can live with having to buy the SD (even thought I think its a complete and udder Madoff) but forcing me to purchase pre-selected set of bundles really gmg.

If I didnt hate shaw so much the Mofo slow guide and overall responsiveness would force me to to give bell a try.

It it wasnt for the online login to set recordings I would have dumped it by now.

I can't pause, rewind or replay on live TV, A message says "rewind is temporarily unavailable. Try again". I have hardly watched any TV since I got this but this happened the last time I watched something a week ago. Any ideas?

I also set a series recording for 2 shows and neither recorded. The shows are still on there for scheduled recording next week. The only thing I can think of is that I had the power off on the box. Does that matter? On the shaw pvr it didn't matter.

Not impressed so far.

try rebooting all your boxes. That has happened to me a few times when i accidentally unplug a non-pvr box. Its like it forgets what a PVR is.

I got my Telus Optik TV hooked up a couple hours ago. I heard about the lag issue from posters and my friend, but I have had no issues with it. The 'lag', if any, is not even 1/2 a second delay. It acts pretty much like a normal remote. Maybe I got a newer one?

Also wanted to pass on something I found out today. So I signed the 3 year contract, which gave me promos for the first 6 months, free pvr, free laptop, and free NHLCI for the first year. I called Telus after the install to get more channels activated and asked her to confirm the centre ice package. Turns out, the centre ice is only free is you chose to NOT GO WITH THE PROMOS. So instead of having the first 6 months at promo prices, you would pay regular fees AND THEN CI would be free.

I was pretty dissapointed to hear this, since the CI promo was the main reason I switched over from Shaw, and not only did the CSR confirm it when I booked, but the person I chatted online with on the Telus site also confirmed it. The CSR I talked to today apologized and said she would give me the promo prices, but I would have to pay 4 installments for the CI package. She said she would follow up with the CSR who I talked to originally, but to me that means its getting swept under the rug. Just thought that if you are choosing to sign with Telus to get that offer, you should be made aware. I'm sure I could have haggled it out of her if I persisted, but she gave me all the superchannels free for 3 months.

I have 2 xboxes as tv boxes, I like them. There are a couple issues though, startup is longer on an xbox, close to a minute and a half from power on to guide and the guide does not icons of the channels like the regular boxes do.

Like butter. Unfortunately the xbox seems to have to re-download the entire guide and list of recorded shows every time it boots up. You can't even change channels without punching the number in directly for a few minutes.
