I am running 2 xboxes & one Telus box with 1 pvr. I had some severe teething problems when I first got Optik installed, but now the system has stabilized and beyond some sporadic minor issues it is working well.

I am getting sick and tired of the ridiculous lag in the system that the last mediaroom update brought.

Do any of the Telus folks on here know when the boxes will be updated to remove the lag? I am debating going back to Shaw due to the lag.

I agree, it's becoming completely unbearable.

Is this lag issue still there? IF not, is it known by Telus and being resolved?

Telus would have to be unbelievably inept to not know that there was a problem with thier firmware. That said, it has been a long time since it started and it hasnt been fixed, so my (completey random) guess is that to fix it they have to remove something they added, and they are not willing to do that .

I've now had telus for 2 and a half months and I can say this service is getting up there with shaw in terms of craptasticness.

I honestly am shocked anyone could switch from Bell and not think this is the worst service ever.

The menu is brutally slow, every function takes about 5 to 10 seconds to load. Be it the guide, my recordings, even powering on.

Our wireless network constantly loses signal for minutes at a time, streaming with my xbox is constantly skipping.

Worst of all is that almost every single day all of our TVs just lose signal. It actually says "no signal available".

I occasionally use shaw when I house sit for my sister and honestly I'd rate it WAY above Telus right now. Except for in appearance. Telus looks nice at least.

To me, it feels like they broke the code that responds to remote control requests. Almost like the remote is not given much priority in the system. It misses quick button presses, but if I hold down a particular button the box will ultimately respond.

I wish they would fix it. I wonder if anybody has gone into a Telus store and tried out the Optik Tv boxes they have on display there.

Have you called a trouble ticket in for your wireless dropping? It could be that you have a bad modem. Might also explain why your xbox is 'skipping' too. What are you streaming to your xbox?

Woohoo! NFL Network is finally on Optik!

Also pretty cool: you can order NFL RedZone without Sunday Ticket, for $50.

Wanted to update this thread with my latest Optik experience - actually, I've used Optik since it was released and this is the first time I've had to call technical support.

Was getting bad pixelization all yesterday with every channel. I called Optik support, (after resetting all devices in the house first so I didn't have to go through that pain over the phone), and spoke to a super nice and knowledgeable guy.

He checked a bunch of things between their side and my PVR and noticed a large number of errors being presented. He did have me check all connections from the PVR to the wall and at the modem level as well and I think doing that actually solved my problem, but he wasn't going to let me go without solving some of these underlying errors.

He quickly escalated the call to another section of their support structure that could help me look into these errors further - new support guy who again was super nice and very knowledgeable.

New guy did some further checking into the errors, even took the time to talk to the network side of things and they found that there were no problems that were externally network related. Based on their research, they attributed my errors to a cable problem somewhere and would be sending a tech out to fix it right away.

So even though my TV doesn't have the problems anymore, they are sending a tech out to replace some cabling, install the latest router/modem and also switch me from copper to fibre - pretty damn good service if you ask me.

I was really impressed with the support I got on a Sunday evening and was actually dreading the call as I expected to get some random in another country who would have me push the power button 15 times while he/she flipped through their script.

Just music. It almost has to be a bad modem. Our service SUCKS. Good internet speed but constant outages, ####ty TV, constant freezing, "service unavailable", "pvr unavailable" and other similar rage inducing messages.

So I tried to switch to Telus and apparently they run on Ports (???) and because there are too many people in my neighborhood that already have Telus I have to wait until someone leaves to be able to switch to their service, and now i am stuck with Shaw who I am preppy disappointed with

So Telus installed yesterday, got the full meal deal TV/Internet/Phone. I wasn't really impressed with the installers knowledge of the product or how he was planning on installing it (Wanted to use a spliced line to feed all the tv's) he also said he was going to put in a larger splitter so I can add a TV if I needed and didn't, then he left without getting my phone active. But that all being said, I'm impressed with Optik TV so far, love the guide compared to Shaw, channel selection is good, but I'm going to miss EncoreAveHD and HDNet but my wife already loves OWNHD. The guide does lag a bit but it did on my Pace box too so thats a wash.

Haven't put the internet through the paces yet, not that I really ever do though.

Either way, I'm already way happier then I was with Shaw... let's hope it stays that way.

He installed an ethernet switch and re-installed our old modem, which seemed odd to me. So now we have 2 networks in the house. Also ran cat5 to the main box and that hasn't changed a thing. This was about a month ago.

I've been advised to talk to retentions but if it gets that far it'll be to cancel.

Im looking to switch from Shaw to Telus, but reading the start to finish of the service going downhill has me thinking this over.

I personally think anyone wanting to switch from either provider to the other should sit tight for 6 months to see who fixes their crap first. Unless you already have hardware etc.

That's my plan at least.

Reason for switching is my deal is up with Shaw, and they don't offer anything good, just a massive overcharge.

You'll get a good deal from Telus for the first 6 months or maybe one year- but after that, you'll be overcharged with them too...
