It won't matter what Dubois wants. If he has requested a trade then CBJ will move him to whichever team gives them the highest return. At that point they are not especially concerned about how satisfied he is with their decision.

Friedman also said in his 31 thoughts today that bigger market didn’t necessarily mean bigger city.
Sure seems like he is hinting at an eventual Dubois for Laine swap.
Sounds like the Jsckets were a team in on Laine and Dubois’s Dad is an assistant coach with the Moose in the AHL.
The trade really helps Winnipeg by freeing up some cap space and getting an extra year on a value deal while having one of the best 1-2 center combos in the league.

If you can make a play for Dubois it's a no brainer to start with Monahan as part of that deal.
Monahan simply needs to go, so tired of watching him disappear when it matters.
Dubois on the Flames would be amazing for years to come.

Look at the Blue Jackets center depth. Highly doubt they trade Dubois for a winger as the main piece.

I think this is just wrong. They didn’t have great center depth when they traded Johansen for Jones but they made the deal because Jones was easily the best player offered. If Laine is the best player offered I think Jarmo takes that deal.

Am I remembering a lot of talk at that draft around Kekäläinen not being super impressed with Laine, or am I getting him mixed up with Puljarvi? I guess Kekäläinen didn't have a chance at Laine, so it was probably Puljarvi.

Having just watched Cozens they would be crazy to give him up for a package that doesn't include an elite talent.

Cozens is at absolute peak value right now. No chance he is traded. The time to try and nab him was tdl last year.
Also the value in that trade favors us pretty heavily. Right or wrong, Sabres are likely to value Reinhart similarly to Monahan. Hanifin isn't worth Ristolainen and one of the best prospects in the league right now.

My money is on Montreal acquiring Dubois. Something around Kotkaniemi makes way too much sense.

I like the reasoning.
“Pierre-Luc” to Quebec.
“Kotkaniemi” to the Finnish GM.
...not very subtle.

Would probably need to be more like:
Monahan, Hanifin, 1st
for
Reinhart, Cozens, Risto
OR
Monahan, Hanifin, 3rd
for
Cozens, Risto, Eakin/Middlestadt
While I think Cozens is going to be great, and I think Risto would do well with a change of scenery... I think the Flames lose both of those options.

It was Puljujarvi who he passed on in favor of drafting Dubois when Puljujarvi was a consensus top 3 pick

Any GM that trades for Dubois without talking to he and his agent about longterm plans is setting himself up to look like an idiot in two years.

People said the same thing about the Raptors and Kawhi.
If it wins you a cup in those two years, no one will question it.

Well, it's also not wrong. PL saying he wants a bigger stage... a french canadian... I think we all know what he's really getting at here. It's not la science des fusees.
Beyond just being finish, Kotkaniemi is a high potential Centre with lots of room to grow. That is probably the ideal replacement candidate for CBJ, and they can likely get an add on from MTL for the current production differential. The fact that he's finish along with Kekalianen is just a happy accident that should make everyone feel more at home and comfortable.
