Everytime Bo throws to 1st, I cringe. If he shifts over to 2nd, suddenly our infield gets much better.
I guess that makes things more complicated if DeJong is struggling at the plate, you can't just sub Espinal/Merrifield/Biggio. Suddenly you're moving Bichette back and forth between ss and 2nd.

I agree, I think Bo should be a SS/2B. We're in a league where versatility keeps you in the lineup. Not saying Bo isn't good enougn to be SS or have to give it up, but Dejong with those kinds of numbers should absolutely be the SS in crunch time. Bo can be 2B or be the DH for the day.
If we reacquire Teoscar, the outfield gets crowded again with KK, Springer, Varsho, Merrifield. I would imagine Merrifield goes back to 2B if we needed the other 3/4 players to play outfield.
I think Biggio should be the next guy gone. Give him and something else of value for Teoscar. We will definitely need him now, especially if Bo is out for a bit.

Looking at https://www.baseball-reference.com/p...ll_appearances
DeJong has only played 21 games at 2B, only 1 since 2017.
Though Semien had only played 29 games at 2B before he became a Jay. But he got spring training to get used to.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I believe in the Jays.
|
Ok. Thoughts...
A: This is a good trade. We gave up a prospect no one had ever heard of for a legit major league SS with a 129WRC+ against lefties.
B: Oh #### I hope Bo isn't out for the rest of the year.
C: We're done for the day unless we DFA Espinal or Biggio.

Yup.
I'm sure we can find someone else to pinch run for Kirk in the 8th/9th.

Jon Heyman @JonHeyman
The Blue Jays checked in on Isiah Kiner-Falefa, but with DeJong acquired, presumably IKF no longer fits. Jays sought SS depth with star Bo Bichette out (Bichette is not expected out too long)

Option A, is my choice.
My guess Bo goes on the 15 day DL, and then returns
I would think, they will be acquiring another bat with power.

Geez can we just give this up? One Bo isn’t being moved. Two Bo this year has improved at SS and is league average there. Three Espinal has regressed and there is no guarantee he’s better defensively at short than Bo. If you just want the Jays to take themselves out of the running to resign Bo by cutting his earnings in half by moving him to 2b than I guess go ahead (look at how top shortstops get paid compared to 2b) but since Bo is kinda the best player on this team I say we let him play short.

If they can get Bo back soon and have DeJong and Hernandez, that will be a much more impressive lineup. Adding Hernandez (fingers crossed) and DeJong should at least hold the fort in the short run.
Also, I think the team morale would significantly improve…especially after yesterday.

Dunno. If Bo isn't seriously hurt then I think they would prioritize Biggio's lefty bat and positional versitility having just acquired a RHH SS... I mean with DeJong coming in Espinal doesn't really offer anything.

Espinal has been soooo bad when he has been at SS. The play yesterday when he casually turned an easy grounder into a bang bang play at first was inexcusable. It could be that he hasn’t quite figured out the timing at short but he just isn’t going to be a legit option at SS unless he significantly improves. Bo has been 10x better than Espinal has shown he can be.

Funny how the lineup is predominantly right handed and struggles vs lefties. So we need to go out and get more right handed bats to be constructed much like we were last year.
I still think the lineup could massively benefit from a big LH bat, and I’d pay just about any prospect capital to add that to this team.

You can talk about wildness with Bo’s arm and all but Espinal literally does not have the arm to play short. Bo likely has more range. Espinal kinda got stocky fast. Not saying Bo won’t do the same at some point but Bo’s issue on D are all mental. He has the skills he just somethings rushes too much. From what people have said though Bo works the hardest on defense and shows up first to the park. You’re not taking that kind of effort and ####ting on it by asking him to play 2b.

Give this up? Is this being discussed ad nauseam? Just throwing out ideas about how to deal with a significantly better ss player.
I never suggested Espinal should play ss. Just ruminating on the loss flexibility to bring Espinal etc... in if Bo moves to 2nd, because we would have DeJong at ss, and we wouldn't want to pull DeJong out of the infield for a better bat, since ss is so much more important than 2nd.

Moving Bo off short stop is like.... the most talked about thing on this team. Especially when he commits an error.
