Gracing my new lady-friend with a first-time watchthrough the 80s-90s Trek starting with TNG.
I'll never get over how dreadful season 1 was. I just outright skipped a certain episode (or two...). Just got through Skin of Evil and she was blown away both that they killed a "main character" and also the joy her death brought me. Just gotta get through season 2 and Pulaski and then it's mostly smooth sailing until Voyager.
Yup, doing the same with my kid. Started with Prodigy, then TOS, then Animated (I'd never seen any, and would give it a 6/10 overall), then TNG.
It is night and day between seasons 2 and 3. Such a slog for most of those... until you hit Measure of a Man (Data slavery episode).
We're now at "Yesterdays Enterprise" and I've got to wait for the right evening - no distractions allowed for that one. It's my favorite of all Star Trek (with apologies to DS9 "In the Pale Moonlight").
I'm envisioning you watching it with her and then after each episode you don your lab-coat and a white board and explain all of the behind the scenes intricacies and inter-woven storylines using a laser pointer.
"You see, the reason they killed of Yar was...and the actress said...and she made a mistake, you'll see her again later...."
"Let me tell you about the whole, what 'we' refer to as 'The Pulaski Fiasco.'"
Like any good soldier though, you gotta do your bit in the trenches before you get to the good stuff!! If she can hang with Seasons 1 and 2 without quitting then you've probably got a good one!
Before I put on the lab coat and explained anything, I did play "Celebration" by Kool & the Gang the moment Crusher said "She's dead" and let it play entirely through the scene of Crusher's team trying to revive her. Then I explained the "why".
She kind of understood it since every character had seen at least one episode with some pretty strong development. All we knew about Yar was she was chased by rape gangs, liked the effect of drugs and was so scarred by about what happened in her childhood that she chose the robot over any of the men while affected by the "horny virus" (as she called it). The last one was a pretty good catch by her since I'd never even considered that. I don't think the writers did either, but in the modern lens is pretty accurate.

I dunno about the Season 1-2 Onesie. I'd definitely do a season 3 uniform though.

After Yar, my single biggest annoyance is that stupid grey sweater. She also likes Wesley which is the first sign this may not work out in the long run, but she doesn't know that yet...

I'm saving ToS for after. I just feel like the 60s campiness of it needs some fondness of where it goes before you can really enjoy it. She doesn't get any movies until after all the series... unless she cheats and watches them on her own time. All I had to do to get this was sit through some Taylor Swift documentaries and an entire concert. I think this is worth it...

Either the Enterprise didn't have a Laundry Room or he had an entire wardrobe of nothing but that sweater.
Merry Christmas Wesley!!
"Oh. Great. The grey sweater. Again...."

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
I used to love hating Voyager on the Internet back in the mid-late ’90s. Every so often I’ll dig up my old usenet posts--which is way harder than it should be--and relive the ritual of eviscerating the newest episode.
Here is what I propose...buddy cop series where Gowron and Gul Dukat travel the Delta Quadrant (we'll hand-wave that) solving inter-galactic crimes alongside their trusty Targ and with occasional help from a transient Vorta.
Cant do it without Jeffrey Combs.
Get. It. Done.

Not Gul Dukat, Garak. You could call it Honor and Dishonor.

I would watch this if you made it like a detective noire show from the 40's. You know starting it off in a gruddy office with Gowran narrating it.
"Another day on the Klingon Home world where we see more examples of Klingons inhumanity to Klingon. I'm bored, I'm waiting for my next big case to break, I've got 5 slugs in my body, 4 of them blood wine.
When in walks this dame, if I described her as gorgeous and dangerous it would shame the words. She was all forehead ridges and leather, Garek would tell me that she was going to put another slug in me, the good kind of slug, this is the kind of Dame that could bring honor to me . . and my house "
