Conroy might get more than a 1st for a retained Coleman with Palat coming to Calgary and getting bought out in the off season.

I think that's a baseline - his upside is higher, and possibly a fair bit higher.

Plus you are adding better prospects as a result of moving Kadri, Rasmus, Coleman and maybe Sharangovich or Pospisil. Plus the draft picks Calgary will get just by being bad a couple more years. you add a 2C, move Frost to 3C and Backs finishes out like Stajan, as a veteran 4C.

Rock hard. Can't wait!
Missing Zary though.
Sharangovich will be a tough sell I think.

Backlund never showed the offensive upside that Cole does.

There's not enough room in the top 9 for Zary. He can be traded for assets. I think Sharangovich can be moved but otherwise he can be sent down. He still has some skills, is not ancient, and has scored in the past.

How about a full sized Bergeron? Or a Trottier?
We're due.

Part of me hopes he does one more NCAA year after this one. I think it’s a great league for development. Of course, if he wants to go pro, I’m sure the flames will go that route which would also be exciting.

And hopefully King (Taco Jr) grows into the #4 role.

Reschny's qualities (playmaking, two-way ability, size, leadership qualities) - sounds a lot like Saku Koivu

Reschny could be ready this year but I'm glad he's not in this mess. Hopefully he climbs in next year. Kindles early season gives me hope Reschny can do it too.

I just want him to be used as a top 3 centre whenever he starts playing with the big club. Not a winger for the first season or two, or a centre on the 4th line. He is a centre. Play him at centre on a line with enough skill to contribute some offence.
It’s why I think another year in the NCAA would be good for him. By then, he likely dominates the NCAA as a centre while also building strength and conditioning. By the 2027-2028 season, he comes into a team that could have picked top 5 in both the previous drafts and be starting in a new arena. Lots of momentum to build on in the organization by then. Plus there will likely be even fewer vets on the team by then so more opportunity.

Yeah, I'm with you and feel another year in the NCAA will be great for Reschny and I think is what ends up happening. Kid is looking great so far in a tougher league but the NHL is hard, and tempering expectations would probably be good. Elite production in these leagues playing against kids doesn't usually translate right away to the NHL. Shouldn't need to look too hard for Flames fans to realize this.

I wouldn't be against it, but if that happens, Palat wouldn't get bought out. The Flames will have plenty of cap room next season - he only has one more year after this year, so no need to buy it out with the Flames cap room. Rather just eat that deal than have it carry over beyond that season.

Will the flames really need the cap space the following season if they did buy him out? I would rather not have another older player on the roster taking up a spot from a young player.

Depends on how many vets they have. Palat is the right kind of vet anyway to play on the 4th line. You still need good vets to shelter kids a bit, and help them to be good pros. I am a firm believer in that.
In a rebuild, you try and maximize value by selling vets, but you also want to bring some decent vets in as well. One year of Palat wouldn't be a hindrance, especially if Andersson, Kadri and Coleman are all traded-out.

And be able to flip him at the deadline for an asset.
