What a tragedy. I would say that the only good that can come out of this is drunk driving awareness, but my god it's 2024, people should know better. And the post above about overly aggressive driving is bang on, I see it so much these days. It's really time to hold drivers to a much higher standard of safety. You're driving a missile. Freakonomics have done several episodes on why killing pedestrians with your vehicle is somehow just accepted.
I'm sad as a Flames fan but I'm infinitely sadder for the entire Gaudreau family. Just picturing his draft day photo of him on his front lawn, proud as #### to be a 5th round pick of the Flames.

Absolutely devastating. Johnny and his family were so close we as flames fans could pick his parents and siblings out of a lineup immediately they all embraced Calgary for the 8 years Johnny played here. I feel so bad for them and Johnnys wife and small children. I feel for all the players and specifically Monahan who was going to be reunited with his best buddy again. So tragic RIP Johnny and Matthew

I just want to wake up and see this is all a dream.
One of the best Flames to ever lace them up. I hope nobody ever wears #13 again. RIP Johnny, you’ll be missed by not only your family but by so many fans from around the world, especially Calgary.

Flames should retire 13 immediately.

I know you have some contacts with the organization. Maybe you could mention this idea to them on behalf of all of us?

Of course, you still have to be careful in that situation because you are going around in an unusual way. And you slow down to do it.
This was about an hour after sunset, so that didn’t help.
Of course, the more likely thing is he was drunk, had just passed a car and was in a hurry.

I think he was angry and tried to pass
In your situation, most people slowed down and carefully moved forward on the right. If there was an accident, it would not be as bad

I'm going to give them some time as I'm sure as we can all imagine a lot of them are probably grieving harder than we as fans are. I'm certain Conny is likely on a plane to NJ, he was extremely close with the Gaudreau's.
With that said I'm pretty confident Calgary was already planning to forever a flame the guy, it might just pivot to something much more now sadly. What a terrible tragedy.

Awful news. Can barely comprehend the significant loss the family will be feeling and the whole hockey world. I wish significant condolences to all who need it.
Rip Gaudreau brothers and know what an impact you made in this crazy world.

I’m struggling to find words. Absolutely devastated. I did not want to think the rumours last night were true.
Johnny Hockey was my all time favourite hockey player that I’ve been able to watch growing up. Rest in Peace Johnny and Matthew. I feel absolutely gutted for the Gaudreau family. My thoughts and prayers are with them.

So tragic, what a devastation for the family.
All you need to know about Johnny is that, as fans, we knew his dad, we knew his mom, we knew his siblings, his children, even his uncle. Why? Because family was everything to him. And because he wore his heart on his sleeve - they all did. He loved hockey - just playing the game. And it was a joy to watch him play. And it was awesome to see his family enjoy watching him play.
One of my all-time favorite players, simply because he was just a happy kid that loved to play the game.
I hope the Flames put 13 in the rafters, I don't want to see anyone else wearing it.

Man. Driving home from dropping off my daughter at school... Ryan Leslie had me in tears the entire drive back.
