The shot was from Espen Knutsen, Morris deflected it.

Absolutely awful, I don't even know what to say. RIP to Johnny and his brother, and condolences to the entire Gaudreau family. What a devastating tragedy.

I cannot imagine what his family is going through today. Awful stuff.
Regardless of what we thought of how he left, he gave us the best years of his career. Thanks Johnny. His brother also spent some time with the Flames organization.
Truly feel awful for his family.

Thoughts to the gaudreau family. Meredith has a cause to truly back if not before. His legacy can be remembered for many reasons and can enlighten and educate.
Guy was a flame! Truly devasting. My hero and reason to stay up late on a work night. Rest in peace.
Always dreamed of a flames reunion will sadly never happen.

There are no words. The Gaudreau family seem to be some of the best people and have lost more than most can accurately comprehend. On a human level this is devastating, as a sports fan I will miss watching his end to end rushes and am sad we won't get to see the 13/23 2nd act., RIP Gaudreau boys.

This is absolutely terrible.
I'm gutted and am nothing more than a big fan.
Flames should retire 13 immediately.
RIP Johnny, you gave us fans something to cheer for during your stay here.
Thoughts and prayers with his wife, young children and family.

You have to think Conroy is gutted right now. Wasn’t it Conny that the Flames sent to see Johnny and his family and in Conny style he was able to get Johnny to sign with the Flames?

The only semi-rational excuse I can think of is that he thought the SUV ahead of him was turning left off of the highway, and he was pulling around him to the right. I live off highway 8 (100 kmph limit) and have to turn left off the highway onto my property, and cars behind me usually go around me on the shoulder. Of course, you still have to be careful in that situation because you are going around in an unusual way. And you slow down to do it.
This was about an hour after sunset, so that didn’t help.
Of course, the more likely thing is he was drunk, had just passed a car and was in a hurry.

An almost unbelievable tragedy like this really puts things in perspective and forces you to reflect on the things that really matter in the world.
Hockey is just a game. This is not. I hope I can remember that going forward.

I keep thinking of the Monahan hug. What a moment that was.
Drive safe this weekend everyone. What awful news.

This is so, so very sad. What absolutely terrible news to wake up to.
One of my all time favourite Flames and players to watch. Such a nice family too. I cannot imagine how they will navigate these losses. This is just an awful, awful tragedy.

Was always a big fan of his, even after his departure from Calgary.
My favourite Gaudreau story:
My brother was working at The National on 10th in Calgary. He was having a few beers in a private area which staff would regularly do after their shift was done. A few Flames came in, and joined the staff. Baby bro chatted with them, and not being a sports person during a conversation with Gaudreau said "So like, I don't know hockey at all, but my brother is a huge Flames fan, I mean no disrespect, but, like, would he know who you are?" Gaudreau chucked and humbly replied "yeah, he'd know who I am" and then they continued to make small talk.
I honestly can't believe this.
RIP Johnny Hockey

This hurts personally way more than I would have imagined or could even explain. Johnny and his family had become such a huge part of my fandom, the Flames and Calgary (probably why Johnny leaving for Columbus hurt too).
I really hope the Flames recognize what the Gaudreaus meant and still mean to this team and the city and respond accordingly.
I can't imagine how shattered the family is. If anyone learns about a way to send condolences or co tribute to a fund for Johnny's young children or a charity in Johnny's name, I'd appreciate it if you could share in this thread. Thanks!
