When has a team had an offseason like this? Any comparables? And we’re not done? This is ridiculous… I am loving every minute of it. If they can add a top 6 RW without hurting our D too much (Kylington +), they should build a statue of BT in front of the new stadium.

Suter and Parise to Wild? Turned out poorly but would have been a fun off-season.

The minister of propaganda for the Oilers (David Staples) weighs in on the signing
Quote:
1. We don’t often write full posts on moves made by other teams through the lens of how it impacts the Edmonton Oilers. This Nazem Kadri deal is an exception in that it’s a major shift in the balance of power between Edmonton and Calgary in the Battle of Alberta, with both positive and negative implications for the Oilers.
2. One obvious positive is that if you love the Battle of Alberta, if one of your great hockey thrills in life is to see these two teams go head-to-head in the playoffs, the Kadri deal adds high octane gas to that fire. Calgary is now much more likely to make the playoffs in the next few years. Calgary is now also much more likely to beat the Oilers in a series. After the loss of Johnny Gaudreau and Matt Tkachuk, the Battle of Alberta looks like it was going to be one-sided for years to come, but the Battle is evidently going to rage for the next few seasons at least.
7. We will recall that a nasty hit from Evander Kane sent Kadri into the boards, fracturing his thumb and driving him from the playoffs. This is the kind of bad blood that will now boil in the Battle of Alberta. It should make for some, shall we say, interesting moments.
No, in 4 years Arizona will be paying us a 2nd at least to help them reach the floor.
The other downside to the flat cap has meant a flat floor so teams haven't really had to "spend to the floor" recently. I believe everyone is above the minimum at the moment. So not only will their be more cap space as these deals near their end, but likely a few more suitors out there as well looking to pick up bonus heavy contracts after the bonus is paid so they can use the cap value to avoid paying real dollars.
I love this part of it. Even if he tapers off a bit as the contract goes into the latter part, if he can get under McDavid's skin every night they play, then this is awesome.
Edmon-chuk losing Kassian, no matter much I thought he was a tool, made them soft as butter.
Reason #97 why McDavid will ask to be traded before the end of his contract.
Looks like the Flames are going for broke, and accept that 4-5 years from now they may be the San Jose Sharks with some bloated contracts for aging players (unless Kadri's nose-dives the last few years).
But you have to admire the dedication to winning right now, and as for Brad... I don't think anyone can question the guy's ability to get things done. He can really blast things out of the park when he's given enough leash to do it.
Lots can happen, players get traded, new players emerge. Why worry,? Enjoy it and let the Flames management take care of it.

I can finally say I'm happy after 10 years bitching about the team, So glad Gaudreau is gone , his move to Columbus showed he never had heart and it was insane for the team to build around a small winger This is now the best Flames team we have had since the 80's great forward group and defense and solid goaltending. Rot in Columbus Johnny rot in Florida Tkachuk
