I think he will play better the minute he leaves Calgary. The pressure of being the highest pick in the Calgary Flames history just seemed to be too much. If he does become better elsewhere it will be important to remember that it wasn't going to happen in Calgary and it was better for everyone to move on
I think it is more likely he plays about the same. He might start to embrace his role with another team however.

Cogliano wanted to play center in Edmonton. They didn't like him at center so traded him to the Ducks.

Cogliano played wing for the Ducks.

The fact so many people believed you is a sign of the massive gap in valuations of Sam Bennett on CP.

He’s a top 6 NHL forward on all 31 teams, all the way to he won’t get qualified and won’t get an nhl offer.

It’s actually hilarious.

Do you think he will?

Victor Mete and his whole 5 goals in 178 professional games demands a trade!

Is he sniffing glue?

Not necessarily relevant to the Bennett trade thread other than I would like to see them try something different with the lines which may include trying Bennett for an extended stretch elsewhere in the lineup. These lines have basically demonstrated that they cannot generate offence 5 on 5. Might as well try the blender and see what happens.
If what we saw in Montreal is what we see going forward, they had better try new combinations etc, agree.

But I wouldn't have said that after the two Toronto losses.

The puck wasn't going in, but they were playing quite well and generating more than the opposition.

With the expansion draft, I won't be surprised if Bennett stays a Flame this season and they see if Seattle takes him

Apparently, NJ is open to trading Gusev after his slow start.

If Treliving and Ward truly believe that they are set at center, a Bennett for Gusev trade could help fix the weakness on RW. Most of Gusev's points last year came from anchoring the second line and 2nd PP unit. He's super skilled and would fit into the Flames top6 better than Leivo or Simon.

I would love this deal.

Can we even afford that cap hit? $4.5m AAV.

Don’t have the cap space for anyone with a contract much larger than Bennett’s.

We do if we get them to take Derek Ryan as well.

Yup, keep him and expose him. Easy decision. Trade value isn’t there.

They'd have to do some cap magic for sure.

According to Capfriendly, Bennett + [insert $850k roster player] would leave the Flames with $156k in cap space for the rest of the reason.

Plus, I'm assuming that Flames would have to add something else to the deal as a sweetener

Fun fact i read elsewhere..

Since Sams first full season (15/16)

1484 players have played in the league.

Only 19 of those have a worse +/- mark.

Of those who have played as many or more games, only 10 guys are worse.

Only 5 of those are forwards.

If I'm not mistaken, Bennett has had the worst +/- in Flames history for several years now. This is despite the fact that the Flames have made the playoffs for the majority of his time in Calgary.

These details will not be lost on rival GM’s. Which is why I think Sam is going nowhere except the Swiss A league as soon as next year.

I'm thinking not playing in Edmonton for a bottom feeder trash organization played a huge part of him being happier with his new role.
