Well that’s about the most point flipping typo I’ve ever put into something.
Let me fix that:
I hope the Flames CAN spin this situation into a win for the team, and I hope Benny does well elsewhere - more importantly, I hope it happens quickly.
...I absolutely am all about the team before the player.

To be fair it was only one poster suggesting this. I’m still not sure he was serious. Least I hope it was a joke.

You play more, you play better.

He had 2 PP shifts.
And the point is he got the time ahead of Dube, Mangiapane etc..
Reading this thread, there's many people suggesting that never happens.
I had to go back a whopping 21 hours to disprove that.

This thought just came to my mind:
Sam Bennett should be careful what he wishes for. I don’t he’s a top 6 forward on a playoff team. So if he’s shipped off to a non playoff team and in the playoffs is where he normally excels, what could his next contract look like if he stinks it up again in the regular season with a different team and doesn’t get a chance to showcase his ability in the post season this year.
Very interesting conundrum for both Treliving’s camp and Sam Bennett’s camp. Honestly, he’s probably better off staying here lying in the weeds and then going Hulk in the playoffs. If he’s shipped off to a non playoff team, I think he’ll be really sad not to playing in the spring when he’s having fun and playing at his absolute best.

I don't think Bennet has been untouchable in a trade situation for the Flames for a few years. Nor do I think the ask has been too high from the Flames, but the agent is hoping this revelation drops the price much lower.
I don't see this lighting anything under the Flames to get something done, the situation has been in this state for a long time. Nor does it spurn any new interest in Bennett from other teams, GMs are well aware of a player is available and don't need to see agent tweets to get the news about who may be available in trade. Again though, with the goal by the agent to drive the price down for his clients to get traded, a GM may revisit the Flames and offer some bottom of the barrell offer out of due diligence or as part of a bigger package.
He's seemingly got a decent enough attitude about it all and can go up and down the lineup. In playoff he goes from a jog to a sprint for those few weeks and just executes with much less hesitation or overthinking, which plagues him in the regular season.
But the excuses about coaches and linemates (Eat bread and Dube are examples of starting low and working up, under the same system/organization and coaches) are long since exhausted. He is what he is at this point.

Bennett would like a trade; Victor Mete requests trade from MTL
In all seriousness, Bennett is going nowhere.
He’s too expensive for what he brings. No one will trade for him. Flames would have to pay to get rid of him and I don’t think they‘ll do that. If he doesn’t at least give them cap relief then his value is pure negative.
At his current price tag he’s most likely playing for a contract, as I seriously doubt he’ll be qualified at close to $3 mln by the Flames or anyone else. He’ll be a UFA at the end of this deal almost guaranteed, with thoughts of Europe or the KHL front of mind.
His best opportunity would likely come via the expansion draft, but I don’t know if Seattle takes a player making $2.55 mln who scores 10-12 goals.
Sam’s stuck. Best bet is to excel in his role and hope the Kraken are convinced.

What would we have to add to get a guy like Mantha out of Detroit?
I’m assuming a lot. But seems like it would be likely a rebuilding team that would wanna take him to give him some top line minutes and get some picks on top.

I have always felt like Bennett has such potential. I still feel that way. I do think he will be wanted, and I think teams will take a chance on him because of what he brings in the playoffs. He could fetch a second round pick, if the flames play hard ball and wait for the highest bidder. Either way, if you ask for a trade, the team will trade you, it just takes time.
I will miss Bennett in the playoffs for his energy, and big hits.
I will not miss Bennett in any other faucet, as he is a defensive liability, takes stupid penalties consistently, and shows up for 10 percent of the games. He is not a pure goal scorer, or a playmaker. He is a high end 3rd and 4th line player.
Hopefully his new team can get more out of him than the Flames could.

So glad many posters now must come to the realization that Sam Bennett will not become a top six player in Calgary (and they can stop drawing up those ridiculous line-ups)
Expansion Draft lists should look more realistic once again with all the talk of the Flames most important centre Mikael Backlund (future Captain IMO) being exposed in favour of Sam Bennett.

Guys, I thought it was so ridiculous that there wouldn't be any green text needed. My bad I guess.

Detroit has been very patient with Mantha and it looks like that patience is finally starting to pay off. I can't imagine they're eager to part with him now, for anything short of a dramatic overpayment.

That's proving it.
Is he off to a great start? No
Did he play particularly well in the playoffs? No
But he has a productive track record. Bennett isn't at that level.
|
I do not disagree that Mangiapane has a better track record 5 on 5 but this is a team that has scored 8 5 on 5 goals with a goalie in the net. Yet our lines remain virtually the same throughout the entire season. Not necessarily relevant to the Bennett trade thread other than I would like to see them try something different with the lines which may include trying Bennett for an extended stretch elsewhere in the lineup. These lines have basically demonstrated that they cannot generate offence 5 on 5. Might as well try the blender and see what happens.

Correction: we don't have to come to that realization until he's actually traded, and quite frankly, I don't plan to.

At best you'll get another Bennett type. He's pricey, combined with a QO that exceeds his worth and most teams will expose him in an expansion draft unless there is a playoff like jump in his play.
I think he will play better the minute he leaves Calgary. The pressure of being the highest pick in the Calgary Flames history just seemed to be too much. If he does become better elsewhere it will be important to remember that it wasn't going to happen in Calgary and it was better for everyone to move on
