Even if MAF went on a tear and had 8 shutouts in a row to win the Cup, I just don't see any way the Pens keep him over Murray. Murray has demonstrated he can be a #1 goalie and he's 10 years younger than Fluery.
As much as us Flames fans would love to get Murray somehow, from the Pens perspective it just doesn't make any sense.

MAF has a No Move Clause and if they have any trouble getting him to waive it for a team willing to trade for him then it makes perfect sense.
If they are forced to protect him from expansion one of four things will happen:
1. They expose Murray and lose him for nothing
2. They trade Murray for a return
3. They buy out MAF (how do you buy out a goalie who just took you deep in the playoffs?)
4. They give Vegas a boat load of assets to not take Murray, basically whatever they want
Which option is most appealing to you, if you were the Pens?
Especially when you've got a 22 year old Tristan Jarry who just put up 2.15 / 0.925 in 45 starts for your AHL affiliate.
EDIT: I'd just like to add that I don't think this will happen, I just think it could happen. IMO they will either be able to trade him to one of his 18 teams on his acceptable trade list, or he will agree to waive his NMC for the expansion draft.

I've been saying for a while that I think the Flames still have a good chance at getting Murray.
If they get Murray as the starter, they can target a vet as the backup and I think there will be a lot of guys available.

The thing with Washington is they don't have a pick until the 4th round.
I would take a run at Grubauer if the price is decent.

I never thought I'd say this but I could see the Pens keeping MAF over Murray.
They won't be able to get what they want for MAF.
They will be able to get what they want for Murray.
... which may include another blue chip goalie in return on top of much else. (Parsons for example, not to start anything...)

I wonder if Washington blows it up. Could we pry Holtby out?

Even in a Caps blow up, they keep Holtby.

According to Cap Friendly, his NMC has an 18 team trade list (i.e. he can be traded to one of those 18 teams). Even if he puts teams like Montreal and Washington on it, there's still likely a few teams that would be interested in acquiring him on the list (especially if he wins another Cup this year).
It's crazy to think that there's a real possibility that Fleury could win the Cup and the Conn Smythe trophy one night and get traded the next day.

Fleury would be a great fit for Vegas. Star goalie with Cups coming off at the very least a deep playoff run and maybe even a Conn Smythe. Personable. Great in the dressing room. Clean image for a franchise that's going to want to project a clean image. He'd be the face of the franchise for the first few seasons.

But they don't have a 10 year window to win with the rest of their core. They have like.... 5? Maybe. It makes more sense to keep the franchise goalie and trade the larger asset in my mind.

A trade to Vegas makes sense in lieu of a pick from Pittsburgh.
All the other talk of the Penguins keeping Fleury makes no sense to me. Even if they couldn't trade him, there's a magical two word term that should solve their problem. Buy-out.

I guess Steve Mason is an option to consider. Not a big fan but prefer him to Elliott. Heard in Detroit and Smith in Arizona are not attractive targets imo and cost assets.

MAF has a modified NMC/NTC which says he has to provide a list of 18 teams he can be traded to.
I think 18 teams is enough teams at least one of them will be willing to pay something.

Not when only 3-4 (if that) need a starter or have no goalie they want to protect in expansion.

And of course, along comes BT to swoop in and snag him. I mean, what a perfect time to bring in the best goaltender in the league right?
Anyways, in reality he probably signs a big fat extension with the Habs this summer and we watch through our fingers in fear as Elliot or MAF take the reigns in Calgary.

If Price were somehow available, I would hope the Flames would be in on that. Only a year left on his contract, it would lower his value somewhat.
Montreal doesn't look like they have a lot of goaltending depth though. Do they have anyone that is NHL ready and signed for next season (besides Price of course)? Certainly not a starter.
I expect that they will eventually sign him to a big deal.

Agreed, the fact that they currently have no starting goaltender (although they do have a non-starter to expose) puts the Flames in a unique position to trade for a netminder currently on a team that has two quality goalies and doesn't want to lose one for nothing in the expansion draft. Based on his age and term remaining, I would still prefer Flower to get us through the next 2-3 seasons and mentor Parsons in the final season of that contract.

With Bishop gone and rumors of MAF deal with Vegas next choice for me would be Calvin Pickard if Avs are planning not to protect him in the expansion draft.

You could of be right, it all comes down to how MAF makes his list.
