Well, that was a waste of everyone's time. A whole bunch of meaningless bit pieces.

Value of a #41-50 pick per Cullen:

~37% chance that player plays 100+ NHL games

Flames are already ahead...and those are odds in an average draft

Alternatively, playoff opponents might target our defensemen more aggressively in hopes of drawing Wideman into the lineup for the next game.

I use the Anaheim benchmark.

We are 1-1 against them this year.

We did not win in Anaheim, nor have in the regular season in 22 games.

If we cannot beat them handedly - in their own building - I don't think we are ready quite yet.

We also got swept by the Oilers.

Getting Lazar is pretty awesome IMO. Not a bad day if you ask me

That's one freaking team. Weird and random benchmark.

We swept the Wild?? Far better team than the Oilers or the Ducks.

Not really because along with the Wild, the Oilers and Ducks could be potential 1st round playoff match ups.

We played the Wild three times; the Oilers four times.

Wild have been more competitve for longer; no excuses to be losing 4 straight to the Oilers. We gave up 21 goals to them in 4 games.

21 goals.

Never thought I'd say this, but Jim Benning may have won the deadline this year. Vancouver did great if you ask me.

Bruce LeVine @BruceLeVinePuck
Jim Nill says Patrick Sharp will eventually need season ending surgery. That explains the lack of trade possibilities

Expected: No moves

Hoped: Wideman trade, Vrbata or Iggy

Result: Lazar

I'm actually pretty happy with today. That 2nd round pick is like a 3rd round pick in a weak draft, and we get a chance to turn a former 1st rounder pick into something. Fantastic day!
