Vrbata remains with his team. That is two years in a row now he has been a top TD-Day target and has opted to stay put. It sort of looks like he doesn't much relish playing hockey in April and May.

Coyotes GM John Chayka said he set threshold for trading Radim Vrbata. It wasn't met. Happy to keep Vrbata. Chance to re-sign him in summer.

no Vrbata or Vanek, didn't get rid of Wideman, paid a 2nd for a draft bust, no Tre magic trade.
I'm a sad panda today.

Ryan Leslie thought otherwise...it was a load of BS when he put that out there pretty sure. The Flames leaked that to him in hopes of generating interest.

If Vrbata's price was a 2nd, do you really think the Flames would have been poised to go deep in the playoffs? Vrbata would probably have resigned in Phoenix anyways for next year.
I am suspecting that Burke and Treliving are realistically thinking that the Flames aren't going to go too far this year. Better to spend on a long-term asset with more potential.
We may be doing good now, but this is not a team to compete deep in the playoffs against the big boys ...yet.

I dunno, Wideman is a good insurance clause to have on the backend if someone does go down during the playoff push.

The Flames have handled the "big boys" just fine this season.
