What's peoples thoughts on pulling the goalie late in the third?

If team North America:

scores - they advance.

gets scored on - they are eliminated.

ties in regulation - same position they ended up in, needing Finland to beat Russia.

I was thinking they should do that since it would give Finland incentive to win, and they would have had the goal difference tiebreaker.

What does an Oiler fan know about backchecking or defensive assignments? Your opinion is not valid. Sorry

And maybe you missed MacKinnon saying he made a bad shot on the two on one which setup the quick turnover and transition.

Honestly, I just think our D is so good Johhny isn't used to being the last man back.

Those combined was the reason Johhny got caught.

And a cherry picking Sedin...

Well, the OT win means that any Finland win will eliminate Russia. If they don't win in OT or lose in regulation, then they require Finland to win in regulation. So, it did make a small difference.

In that case yes.

The whole sequence started with Johnny doing a flyby on Daniel Sedin which led to Sweden's 2on1. Thankfully Daniel missed the net.

Gostisbehere picked up the puck and he and Mackinnon rushed the puck back down to the other end with Gaudreau trailing. When the puck turned over behind the net, Gaudreau was the last man back so he should have been aware of where his man was.

They probably should have I think. But T-Mac probably wasnt aware of the circumstances because he had the fourth line out so it's moot.

His man was cherry picking the opposing blue line lol. A hockey player would be dumb not to take that 3 on 2 every time.

Wow some free-wheeling hockey in 3-on-3? Sounds shocking.

Except he did make it back, he broke up the play behind his net, stormed down the ice for a shot on net, chased down the puck and pushed Sedin aside to feather it back to McKinnon.

But yea, nice spin you put on it. Pretty typical Johnny was the best player on the ice and that's all you came here to make mention of.

So, why were the players unaware of the ramifications of the game?

Isn't that kinda important? That's extremely strange to me.

I think Hughson is a bigger J. Hockey fan judging by his calls.

I don't think they could have pulled the goalie.. have to at least leave the door open to win in overtime and hope for a Finland win.

Yeah, you could tell the Swedes knew that an OT loss was good enough for them. NA wasn't playing with the urgency they should have at the end of the third.

Also on the Johnny shot, I think it was pegged for top corner, Lundqvist actually got a small piece of the glove on it..

Maybe Bettman will pay the refs under the table to screw the Russians and help ensure the greatest hype match of all time..NA vs CAN.

To Todd McLellan, nothing is more important that getting McDavid on the ice for as much of the time as possible. It wouldn't surprise me if he was chanting that repeatedly in the locker room and on the bench.

Lol. Did you watch the game in Jono-vision?

Gaudreau was the first back on the breakaway but he overskated the puck. He didn't break up anything.

Gostisbehere pushed it up to Mackinnon. Then Gaudreau picked up the puck as the trailer and got the shot, and then hustled to outwork Sedin to make the game winning play.
