if you talking about hockey players and evaluating all aspects of the game...
If you are just talking about stuffing the stat sheet and playing the offensive zone?
He's still about 5th on that list. Nice try though.
As the Oilers are having a hard time learning, it takes complete hockey players to win games and the Cup.....I would take probably almost every player on that list before Taylor Hall without even much thought. (obviously ignoring age, cap hit etc)

The Oil must have an agreement with Lucic. Given the return and timing it would make sense. Also, given Chiarelli's nonchalant manner during the press conference, leads me to believe it was because he knows all will be fine with the Oil faithful in a couple days.
I was one of the people preaching that they needed to deal Hall last year, even if the return was less than ideal so I can't really bag on this trade too much. I think they could've gotten more had they made this move last year though. My only hope now is that they've given Lucic some obscene contract for an extended period of time.

Well, since Hall's only asset is his offense, let's look at the stats for the last two seasons
Points: Hall comes in at 20th.
Goals: 25th
Okay, he's missed some games due to injury, that's fair. Lets look at points per game and filter it to only show players with over 100 games played in the last 2 years.
Hall comes in at 10th.

Nope. Unless you're a stats guy and only look at goals and assists.

I'm interested in the expansion draft implications. Haven't the Oil painted themselves into a bad corner here?

Top 3? Really? Based on what? By any measurement he isn't. I don't think 6 is bad value but it sure ain't a steal.

Not sure what you guys are debating.
I hope with some coaching and vet leadership the guy wins multiple scoring titles and goes on to a hall of fame career. We can all laugh at this like we do thinking back at when 99 got shipped out.
The cliche evolves for the next generation, and my son says things like "we'll if Taylor hall can be traded then..."

They painted the 4th dimension, that's how colossally in the corner they are.
This is the rebuild of the rebuild of the rebuild.

Hall has always had really really poor hockey IQ and is awful defensively. He can put up points but that doesn't mean you're a top 3 winger in the league.
6 million sure isn't a steal, it's probably over payment for what he brings to the table as a whole.

Is there an around the league report for this? I just popped over at the other site and I have never smiled so much over someone else's tears.

One more question, do you have to get a new boat license moving from EDM to NJ? I'm surprised that wasn't a sticking point.

Hall is not a terrible defensive player, that's just a myth perpetuated by the Oilers being a terrible defensive team and Hall having a few hilarious brain farts. If he played on a good team you might even start building a rep of him as a good defensive player.

Interesting seeing some of the comments on here. I always saw the Hall and Eberle Connection as the biggest locker room cancer in the league. It upsets me that I may have to worry about the Oilers not being a pushover anymore. If I were Chia, I would have also done the Hopkins for Dumba deal and said thank you. And then looked at moving Eberle for whatever.
This was a step forward for Edmonton being competitive, and that makes me sad.

Ummm maybe its time to put down the bong.
The guy is horrific without the puck, you just need to watch Oiler games to see it. On top of that look at the last half of last year where he was one of the laziest players in the league.

Nope. No myth here, sorry. Watched many an Oiler game and can't count the number of times I've watched him in his own zone with really no clue where to go or what to do.

No offense but you're the last person to give a remotely objective account of an Oiler/former Oiler.
